Ben and Jerry's Boycott Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry's Ice cream, schemes to "increase profits" by supporting a cop-killer. Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben & Jerry's, co-authored a book titled "Ben & Jerry's Double-Dip : How to Run a Values-Led Business and Make Money, Too ". This book explains "How your commitment to worthy social causes will result in unprecedented customer and employee loyalty -- and increased profit". Ben Cohen believes that it's good for business to become involved in social causes. One of the social causes he has chosen to become involved in is the "Free Mumia Jamal" movement. He signed his name to a petition which appeared in a full page ad in the New York Times. The words "Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream" appeared on the petition, next to his name. When people became angry about Cohen's actions, he posted this statement on the B&J web site;
"Scores of American legal scholars, including former United States Attorney General Ramsey Clark, have reviewed the trial of Mumia Abu-Jamal and concluded that he did not receive a fair trial. In the interests of justice, these scholars have called for a new and impartial trial. I am in no position to judge his guilt or innocence. For all I know, a new and impartial trial could find him guilty again. But the American system of justice must be fair and must be perceived as fair. So I have supported the former U.S. Attorney General in calling for a new trial to properly establish Jamal's guilt or innocence. I take this position as a concerned citizen, not as an officer of any company or organization."
Ben Cohen cites former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark as one of the "legal scholars" who believes that Mumia did not receive a fair trial. Ramsey Clark also believes that the USA should be tried for war crimes against Iraq. Does Cohen have any of his own reasons for thinking Mumia's trial was not fair? He seems to be saying that he has he formed his opinion simply because he believes some people who call themselves "scholars".
All of the many judges who have reviewed this case over the past two decades have unanimously decided that Ramsey Clark and his "scholar" friends are wrong.
Cohen's claim that he took this position as a concerned citizen, not as an officer of any company, is an outright lie. On the "Free Mumia" petition, he signed his name right next to the words "Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream", and we know from his book that commitment to "worthy social causes" such as Mumia Jamal is done with the intent of creating "customer and employee loyalty -- and increased profits".
Ben Cohen needs to learn that supporting cop killers is no way to make money.

Dude. All he's doing is supporting Clark's request for a "fair" trial. Doesn't mean Mumia's gonna gets one.
Lay off the rhetoric. It's a bit thick. I LIKE BEN & JERRY'S ICE CREAM.
Ben and Jerry's Business Plan:
Step 1: Support Cop-Killer
Step 2: ?
Step 3: Profit!
Last I heard (a year or more ago) Mumia was no longer on death row. I think his status changed one December.
They are one of the NRA's worst enemies. NRA Life-member. Both of those fools are kommie klowns and probably gay lovers. Bush/Cheney 2004
Isn't it strange how socialists/communists such as Ben & Jerry, Theresa Heinz-Kerry, Ted Turner, George Soros, "Reverend" Jesse Jackson, etc., etc., are willing to make mega-billions for THEMSELVES, while at the same time supporting a system of government that is totally opposed to the profit motive?
It makes me wonder if capitalism, free enterprise, & private property rights could oftentimes be their own worst enemy.
What's so special about Mumia when there is a whole gaggle of people awaiting executions?
I knew they were commie just from the names of their ice creams. I've never eaten them and never will.
I never eat Ben & Jerry's. And it's not just because I don't want to be fat, either.
Gateway Civil Liberties Alliance, has a list of anti-gun companies.
At http://www.gclastl.org/know_your_enemies.html
There is a listing for Ben & Jerry's under Know Your Enemies.
One and the same?
"Former U.S. Attorney General Ramsy Clarke expressed readiness Sunday, December 14, to act as defense lawyer for ousted Iraqi president Saddam Hussein"

"The rally was organized by Answer, a coalition put together by the International Action Center, which is, in turn, a front for the Workers World Party. This group is exactly what it sounds like. The action center's supreme leader is Ramsey Clark, who told the crowd the U.S. is committing genocide and that President Bush is a war criminal. Not that there's anything wrong with that, in Clark's view. On Sunday, he explained to a TV interviewer that Saddam Hussein may have killed some people, but, "It takes a strong man to hold together a country like Iraq."

Thank you for the valuable information. Ben&Jerry are the creation of what happens when bodily fluids are tossed against the wall in a toilet booth and the owner of said fluids then proclaims,"Be-Something." Those two idiots are a complete dis-service to any enlightened American who loves our great country. Bush/Cheney 2004 (One America)
I often wonder why a puke like clark is still breathing. Clark is the epitome of Radicals-R-US. Well, old kommie kushner is in the grave and Kuby not too far behind. Clark rally did a jam up job defending the people of waco.(Right) Sadaam best plead guilty now and avoid the kommie mouth popping barrister in the carter era. Bush/Cheney 2004 by a landslide.
It's schizophrenic......a commie who wants to exploit leftwing "social causes" to make tons of money in the capitalist tradition.
heheheh.
Also, Geno's makes the best damn steaks in the world. I'd take a Geno's steak over a Ben and Jerry's ice cream any day.
Red-baiting - not just a hobby, but a way of life! LOL ;-D
Ramsey Clark has been a headline seeking ambulance chaser lawyer for the last 20 years. He has little creditbility and even less honor now among responsible people.
Quoting Clark in this case is a BAD liberal joke. Clark would be one of the first people killed in the Fundamental Islamic Terrorists idea of a perfect world.
Mumia is going to get a more "fairer" trial because of it being in the US, not in Iraq, Iran, Syria, or elsewhere in the Middle East.
PS...I like ice cream too, BUT I am going to give up the B&J milk fat, their ridiculous prices and their sick view of politics that includes making sick icons out of brutal cop killers.
Not that I don't agree with you. Clark has no shame. I recall the slimeball bitched about the tanks "burying" the Iraqi troops in their trenches during Gulf War I. The fact that a classmate of mine augured in while flying a combat mission took away ANY sympathy I have, and Clark did not persuade me otherwise.
