RUSSIAN spying in Britain is back to Cold War levels, The Independent newspaper in London reported today, quoting government and security sources.
It said 32 Russian diplomats were involved in attempting to obtain secrets about Britain's military, technical and political capabilities, and information about critics of President Vladimir Putin.
"The level of espionage by the Russians in the United Kingdom is back to Cold War levels," a government source was quoted as saying.
"It is business as usual for the spies."
Britain's domestic intelligence agency MI5 is responsible for counter-intelligence, and it had warned its political boss, Home Secretary David Blunkett, of growing Russian spy activities, The Independent said.
Quoting unnamed intelligence sources, it said that Russia's spy network in Britain was overseen by the Foreign Intelligence Service, or SVR, with about 18 agents claiming diplomatic status in the country.
About 14 agents from Russia's military intelligence agency, known as the GRU, were also posing as diplomats, the newspaper said.
Alex Standish, editor of Jane's Intelligence Digest, told The Independent that there had been a "steady increase" in the number of Russian diplomats posted in Britain.
"If you look at the profile of the individuals, you see a significant proportion of these people are linked to the SVR," he said.
Standish added: "Putin is rapidly building up intelligence systems that have been allowed to fall into decline under the Yeltsin era."
I personally was poisoned just last week by KGB agents disguised as one of my goats. It happened while I was attempting to visit a clandestine soviet group meeting near my home.
In my last moments of consciousness I was able to rip the disguise from my attacker and saw with horror that it was indeed a KGB agent, in full soviet gear. The evil soviet agent had even pretended to like the goat treats I was offering and eaten some of them! After that I knew nothing until I awakened in the hospital.
I will be posting a full account of this experience shortly to all of FR, in order to bring to light the terrible threat to our country. These agents have inflitrated even to the extent that it has become dangerous to raise dairy goats. The menace is upon us.
Recently I caught one of my other goats wearing a soviet jacket and speaking in Russian. I know it is my duty to alert the populace. Putin has sent agents to infiltrate goat herds throughout the country.
The next day, I knew I had been poisoned. I was neusous, had the chills, a bad taste in my mouth and a pounding head ache. All signs of KGB poisoning.
The fact I had several ruined relationships after words only proves their evil genius.
Chechins are actively trained in Turkey and allie Georgia takes US funds to fight them and then arms them itself. Plus many German and British mercs have been killed there. Just last month 25 turks were killed.

And Bush doesn't have a spy network? And Israel doesn't have one (just last month a man busted passing secrets to Israel). Oh yes, double standards, you like those, that and paranoia sky fallings.

Many Chechens fought along side the KLA in Kosovo and have been found fighting against the US in Afghanistan. Chechens were also trained along side the KLA in Bin Laden's camps. I'm sure they have found new training grounds now, but that doesn't change the fact that the KLA, Chechens and Islamic terrorists are all aligned.

Now it is highly probable that the 0.000002% of the population which was strongly behind you will have to look elsewhere for a candidate to buck Putin with.
And you will have to seek asylum, no doubt, in either the UK or here, both countries where there is never a hint of political intrigue or conspiracy.
A lot of Russians live in England, a lot that would like to see Zakayev a toasty turd.
And I think Tapthesource, probably on his or her fifth reincarnation here on FR, has been here a lot longer. Like an entire week.

That is the logical approach, based on facts and high probablitities.
But you see, in order to make Putin into the next soviet invader, we must instead take the view that all over the world islamic radicals are real, except in Russia, where they are actually KGB agents.

Well I personally know quite a few people who like you very much, in spite of not having met you.
I know I told you I moved to Pennsylvania to retire, but I need to be honest and tell you the truth. I moved here to try to uncover a large KGB ring here.
They dress very simply, don't shave and don't even drive. They are very very secretive and keep to themselves. This group pretends to be farmers and carpenters but I'm onto them :-)
But regarding the article, Russia has been spying on us at a Cold War pace pretty much continuously. There was no break.
