He's doing opkay in the battleground states because that's where he's spending all his time and ad money. Meanwhile, his base was never crazy about him to begin with, and he's not at all a charismatic figure, so it's hard for him to maintain his appeal in a state like Conn. or Hawaii that isn't getting his message crammed down its collective throat on the airwaves or news coverage of local rallies every day. Out of sight, out of mind. Basically, Kerry has put so many of his eggs in the basket of a few swing states, that he's losing his base.
I agree with your take; however, I think this is the only chance Kerry has - to cherry pick states that he can steal from Bush and hope to hold on in the blue states, albeit with dwindling support. Kerry has to assume those blues will stay blue without his attention. He really cannot worry about losing them, since he would have no chance anyway. A desperate strategy but it's all he's got.

CT's a wonderful state, outside of the big cities.
I'm leaving NYC in a couple of months for Fairfield County, Ct, which is fairky conservative (except for Westport and the cities)...Just couldn't take the NYC libs anymore

22 years in NYC, 10 of them in Manhattan, I reached my breaking point- sold my co-op, bought a house. Tough move, as I LOVE the city, and work downtown.... Just couldn't tske the people. Thanks

Somewhat off topic, but I've been in Vegas the past few days, and driven all aeound LV, Lake Mead, St. George Utah, Zion Park, etc. I have not seen a SINGLE Bush/Cheney sign or bumper sticker... I've seen a ton of Skerry and Matheson (Dem running for Gov in Utah).
Between St. George and Zion Park, I literally counted 24 Skerry signs, NO Bush signs, 18 Matheson signs, and 8 signs for Huntsman (GOP gov candidate).... Alao, Skerry, and NOT 527s, is running an ad claiming Bush has a secret plan to privatize and raid SS. What a lying scumbag
What gives? Any thoughts? I feel like I'm in NYC- at least there, in the burbs, there are Bush signs

You Know NYCR?
Back in 80 when I first got a place there I was 22 and sort of a libertarian-moderate-conservative who hunted and liked guns and had old fashioned ideas about women.
After a half dozen cocktail parties and being around Columbia and Barnard and NYU faculty and grad students and always being on the defensive about being a mere Southerner, I became pretty much what I am today.....a knuckledragger.
I got on well with Israelis and local Italians and Irish but the intelligentsia and literati made me hostile and resentful....I remember Andrea Dworkin at 72nd and Broadway with her table set up railing about men and then the Tawana Brawley garbage....and so forth.
Now....I get angry here just being in the Vandy neighborhood with the same crap.
NYC is the center of the human beehive universe but they can have it. Great place when you are young though.

"I believe it was the Hartford Courant."
You are correct, they did endorse him. I googled and checked. That is THE paper in CT. I can't name another.
This is the state, the northeastern state discussed in earlier threads, rumored about. 7 EVs in CT.
GO BUSH!

Looks like it. If Kerry wins only hardcore Democratic states, its an admission he has no appeal to swing voters. If that happens I'd look for every state but those six and D.C to turn Red. The worst Democratic nightmare. I would really like it to be a short election night and by that I mean its all over by 9:00 PM EST. About two hours before the polls close on the Left Coast.

no way!! =o)"
You know, this could be part of the reason Bush is up in Conn vote-wise. I'll just lay a bet that there are a lot of Connecticut citizens who are fed up with their activist courts and all of the liberal baloney, and may secretly be a lot more conservative, especially on something like gay marriage, than people think. So it's not totally impossible to see Bush making some inroads here. Whether they are enough is another story.
To: flaglady47
I don't think Bush will win Conn, but the fact thats its closer than it was in 2000 is bad news for Kerry
