Re-Elect President Bush October 24, 2004
As in many past elections, Americans are closely divided over who should be the next president. It's not a clear-cut case of one candidate being far superior to the other. Yet history is not made by those who stand on the sidelines and wring their hands. The people must choose on Nov. 2, and The Courant recommends George W. Bush over John F. Kerry.

The Courant endorsed W in 2000 as well. The endorsement is pretty good although they take a few potshots at W and brand social conservatives as "fundamentalists" because we believ marriage is between a man and a woman and killing unborn babies is not a good idea. Oh well, I'm a big boy, I can take anything the Rockefeller Republicans can dish out and give back more.
You may have to register to read it in its entirety but its pretty standard fair although they do note that Kerry's muddled position on the WOT and Iraq is their primary reason for backing W.

New Haven Register also endorsed Bush. Their editorials tend to be pro war and pro Bush lately so I wasn't all that surprised.

It should also be mentioned that George W. Bush is the only President born in Connnecticut.

I read the front section of the hardcopy Hartford Courant a few times each week before heading off to work. The Tribune masters must have made a decree. The local editors must be howling. It is the most leftist little rag that you can imagine (second only to the local Lynchburg VA paper). The editors can never find enough government solutions to the many problems of Hartford. The Bush bashing has been served up on a regular basis, mostly by reprints of damning articles from the LA Times and Washington PravdaPost. The "endorsement" will carry no weight and lacks credibility and I expect the local bashing to increase in intensity.
The local CT RATs have already announced a fund ready for someone to challenge Lieberman in the RAT primary during the next round. As a note, on my drives through the back-country of CT (twice a week between Hartford and NYC for the last two months) I see mostly Bush-Cheney signs.

I live in the NE woods of CT. I am quite familiar with local and state politics and the journalist in Nutmeg Land. Ct is a dem state, period. The only republicans holding office are the Rockefeller type. Not my cup of tea but we do the best we can.

Amazing...the Hartford Courant, the New Haven Register,
and the CT Post have endorsed Bush and there is still not a prayer that Bush will win CT - makes me want to move.

The Courant has a lefty reporter by the name of Jarrett Murphy, who was head of the College Democrats when I was VP of the College Republicans at Fordham.

"New Haven Register also endorsed Bush."
As did the Connecticut (nee Bridgeport) Post, and I believe the Waterbury Republican (CT's only large conservative paper).
Konnecticut is an extreme Lefty state, but it appears every large city newspaper has endorsed W.
Interesting.

Electoral-vote.com shows CT as "weak kerry" which means that there is plenty of room for surprise.
