Neither Bush nor Kerry meets our endorsement test. Detroit News
The Detroit News is a conservative paper that endorsed Bush in 2000. Basically they are whining because Bush isn't conservative enough. A bit silly.
There's nothing like having a fence jambed up your *ss!
If they can't make up their mind and keep changing their mind, it seems to me Kerry would be their logical choice.
It seems to me that kerry is the loser here.
So it has a subscription base of 14 Michiganders?
The Detroit News has had a conservative editorial page since forever. They have never endorsed a Democrat for President.
Nolan Finley took over the editorial page a couple years ago, and in spite of promises to maintain a "conservative" editorial page, he has shifted sharply to the left. He has run hosannas about affirmative action. He thinks we should giving preferences to the son of a rich black doctor from Bloomfield Hills over the son of a lower middle class white auto supply worker from Warren.
He's been slowly shifting left to the point that the News's editorial page, outside of Thomas Bray's column and Henry Payne's cartoons, is tough to distinguish from the leftist Detroit Free Press.
Those of you who subscribe to the paper should look to switching to one of the suburban dailies. Heck, even switching to the Free Press would make more sense, at least the Free Press doesn't pretend to be conservative while publishing liberal editorials. The News, under leftist Finley, has put on a charade the last two years, all to build up to this moment where they try to destroy Bush. It won't work, but they need to be punished for their little stunt. It's the only way they'll learn their lesson.
Hmph, I've heard the same argument made by a handful of FReepers. Seems like a form of protest to try to get Bush to adopt a more conservative position. I'd have to agree it's a bit silly, especially given the importance of the results of this election.
That's just convenient rhetoric from Finley.
Here's a National Review piece on Finley's coup d'etat from four years ago:

the dertoit news has been so critical of general motors and the american auto industry over the last 4 decades that the very least they could have done was to endorse raplph nader.
But, Maxine Waters probably does meet their endorsement test as long as she chooses Charlie Rangel or Carl Levin as her running mate.
They only endorse Canadians.

The Detroit News has turned into a POS. It's editorial group used to be a fun smart bunch of pro-private sector, conservative writers. I don't know what happened.
Yep. Better off now subscribing to the Limbaugh letter.
I have to say, Findly did write a great editorial slamming the move to restore control of the Detroit School board to that corrupt group that it was taken from 6 years ago.

Then they can encourage their readers in Detroit (overwhelmingly 'Rat) to just stay home on Nov 2.
the editor and publisher is mark silverman. he needs to hear
from some people. we are at war and our country is at stake.

Would digging up George Washington suffice for the Detroit News?
Dingdongs for Nader.
