The Iraqi terrorist organisation led by the Jordanian militant leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has changed its name to align itself with the al-Qaeda network led by Osama bin Laden.
In a statement posted on the Internet, the al-Tawhid wal Jihad group says it will now call itself "The al-Qaeda group of Jihad in the country of two rivers." The statement comes a week after Mr al-Zarqawi pledged support to Osama bin Laden, but it is not yet certain if the message is genuine.
A close aide of Mr al-Zarqawi has been captured near the Iraqi town of Fallujah along with five other insurgents. Iraq's interim government says it has succeeded in reestablishing contact with Mr al-Zarqawi and is demanding his surrender.

OBL hasn't been heard from in some time now (dead men usually don't talk). I think Zarqawi is OBL's replacement, nonetheless, we got to get him right between the two rivers. Which I suppose is the Euphrates and the Tigris. God, this man is so evil.

MARTY: Let’s...uh talk a little bit about the history of the group. I understand, Nigel, you and David originally started the band wuh...back in...when was it... 1964?
DAVID: Well before that we were in different groups. I was in a group called The Creatures and w-which was a skiffle group.
NIGEL: I was in Lovely Lads.
DAVID: Yeah.
NIGEL: And then we looked at each other and says well we might as well join up you know and uh....
DAVID: So we became The Originals.
NIGEL: Right.
DAVID: And we had to change our name actually....
NIGEL: Well there was, there was another group in the East End called The Originals and we had to rename ourselves.
DAVID: The New Originals.
NIGEL: The New Originals and then, uh, they became....
DAVID: The Regulars, they changed their name back to The Regulars and we thought well, we could go back to The Originals but what’s the point?
NIGEL: We became The Thamesmen at that point.
Before long, it will be called, "The Hateful Dead."
