SACRAMENTO -- U.S. Senate candidate Bill Jones on Saturday urged Secretary of State Kevin Shelley to resign after federal election officials charged he has let California fall behind in addressing new mandates.

Jones, a Republican and former secretary of state, said a warning from the chairman of the nation's election oversight commission that the state could lose out on $170 million due to mismanagement was "the last straw."

"He needs to look at that and recognize the crisis of confidence that's there," Jones told The Associated Press. "They're saying if you certify it or not, we don't trust you."

That's nice that he made it in the news, but I'd prefer to see Bill Jones actually put half the effort he's put in to his campaign against Shelley campaigning against Barbara Boxer for the Senate instead.

I realize its partly the fault of the MSM, who have purposely ignored the senate race in California to give Bouncer a free ride, but Bill Jones is the one who should resign. He is the most ineffective candidate for a major party I have ever seen.

Alan Keyes could run in California and Illinois at the same time and still get more votes than Jones.

Unfortunately, there is only one word to describe the California Republican Party...

JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe that if Former President Reagan knows how the party is now, he's sure is spinning in his grave.

Frustrating eh??

I can't figure why the guy ran in the primaries. He has done absolutely ZIP to win this election.

No signs. No ads. No TV interviews. No radio interviews.

I am starting to wonder if he has gone the way of "Weekend at Bernies"?!?? If you look closely, there are always two guys standing next to him and he always has that grin....

Especially a moderate candidate like Jones is. I wish Kaloogian won. He started the entire recall effort.

Sometimes, a businessman will run for an office that they don't expect to win so that they can establish business connections with big contributors. After the election, they take advantage of those connections for a financial windfall. Bill Jones strikes me as that kind of candidate.

I love Bill, and he isn't all the blame, the media ignores him.

So do I. I just received my NRA mag and Jones got a 'D' rating from them.

Even so, I'll hold my nose and vote for him.

"Weekend at Bernies"?!??

I was thinking the same thing. Without FR, I wouldn't even know that this guy is running.

I voted for Howard Kaloogian in the primary election. The Sacramento Bee endorsed Bill Jones and so did Arnold. So where's the Bee now? And where is Arnold? Nowhere.

Boxer would have had to actually campaign if Howard ever had a chance to run against her. He is quick, witty, has all the right words and is a wonderfully grand conservative to slash her ultra-liberal stupidity and record to shreds.

Bill Jones is a good man, but he's not a street fighter like Kaloogian would have been running against that abortion happy woman, Boxer.

It is his fault, he is the candidate and its his responsibility to make news.

If Shelley should resign for malfeasance, Jones should resign for catastrophic ineptitude. Worst campaign I have ever (not) seen. Who was Jones, anyway?

Haha...

Shelley has a higher Q rating than Jones ever will.

I probably can get more votes then Jones, even though I'm not running.

What a pathetic senate race. Wait, what am I saying? There's no senate race here.
