Chieftain ... there were plenty of Vietnam Veterans in attendance in Melbourne and they sure let their thoughts be known in the bus lines to and from the parking areas. From time to time I'd overhear some passionate conversation that sounded like someone reading a FR thread out loud!

The Jax turnout is amazing and leaves me with a question ... how could Corrine Brown beat Jennifer Caroll in the third district twice? It is a shame that there is no opposition to Brown this year.

Corrine Brown's district, (district 3), was drawn specifically to elect a liberal democRAT. Jennifer is neither. Jennifer is a bright, beautiful, intelligent, CONSERVATIVE, woman who happens to be black. Corrine Brown is a dull, not attractive, uneducated, LIBERAL, woman who makes sure you know is African-American.

That district meanders through some 10 counties encompassing slums as well as expensive property, which both happen to have large concentrations of liberal democRATS.

The only way Corrine will get 'de-throned' is if she is convicted of some of the things she has been accused of before, and even that doesn't guaranty defeat, (remember Marrion Barry in DC?). The district is illegal and should be redrawn, but the Florida legislature doesn't have the spine.

...Channels 6 and 9 news (Orlando) had an interview with the Piper Cub pilot on their 11 o'clock news last night. He said he was coming back to Florida from "up north" and didn't know about the restricted fly zone (shouldn't they be required to check??)...

One report quoted him as saying he knew of the restricted air space over the Bush event in Jacksonville but not the one in Melbourne.

BTW, a correction to what I posted this morning. Channel 9 (Orlando station) identified the plane as a "Cessna" (not sure about the spelling); not a Piper Cub as I said earlier.

Hate to break the euphoria of a stellar appearance of POTUS, but it is a very serious security breech that this plane got so close to the Pres. How in hell could this have happened? Isn't someone monitoring air space over the President? It appears that complacency is slowly marching back in.

From what I understand as an airline enthusiast, there are and have been buffer zones around the country around major hubs, and it's my understanding that Jacksonville is a major hub. These buffer zones are set up so that small planes like the Piper aren't flying in the same airspace as say a 747 or a 777 taking off and landing at larger airports like O'Hare, Hartsfield in Atlanta, Minneapolis/St.Paul, or Laguardia and JFK for instance. Some of these hubs allow smaller planes to land and take off, while others don't. My guess is Jacksonville doesn't.
