Jesse Ventura endorses Kerry Updated: 10/22/2004 06:00:30 PM - VIDEO
ST. PAUL - Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura has officially endorsed Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.
The announcement was made during a 30-minute news conference at the State Office Building. The former Minnesota Governor was there, but did not make any comments.
Just days ago, Ventura had said that he did not plan to support Kerry or President Bush this election year.
Also at the news conference was former Maine Gov. Angus King, who was the only other third-party governor during Ventura's years in office. He said Ventura changed his mind and decided to endorse Kerry.
Organizers didn't even know Ventura was going to show up until the news conference started. He told reporters who followed him out to his car afterward that he'll be doing interviews in Los Angeles.

Will this help Kerry hold MN? There may be 5 percent Ventura "kool-aid" drinkers up in the Twin Cities. What was Ventura's real name: Eric Something? Ventura is an alias.

Wonder what he's getting in return.

I think Jesse's run as governor was not that successful, so I don't think it will have much impact. Also, he just stood behind some other guy who was endorsing Kerry and refused to answer questions. What's up with that
We do know that he was so popular that he couldn't get a show on CNBC or MSNBC. That puts his appeal somewhat below John McEnroe, who is pulling in something like 500 households nationwide to his show.

Will this help Kerry hold MN?
My naive guess (have associates in MN) is that this is neutral-to-a-negative for Kerry.
The tide of politics in MN has taken a decidedly sane turn since the
Wellstone Wake and Democratic Pep-Rally.
And I think a lot of folks making that move to the right see Ventura as a
flake who's had his 15 minutes.
Aside from announcing professional wrestling, that is.

The main reason Ventura didn't run for reelection was he understood he would only get the votes of the Ventura family. He is now and always has been a radical liberal. It should come as no shock that he would endorse Kerry.

I heard this on the news...they said Ventura never said a single word! They said the govenor of Maine made the announcement that Ventura was endorsing kerri and when the media asked him about it all Ventura did was nod in the direction of the Maine govenor...it seemed quite bizarre the way they made it out.

Ventura has no national constituency unlike Ross Perot in '92, '96 and even 2000.
