Most of the undecided will break fro Lisa...they're PO'd at the nepotism issue, with some validity, but in the voting booth, they can't vote for Knowles/Daschle....and I expect W to drop in with Lisa..AF one is such a marvelous backdrop..

Yeah it is. But I believe Ms. Murkowski was appointed by her father, fueling acusations of nepotism. That's the issue she faces.

Yes Alaska is a Republican state but think they are teaching Daddy a lesson. They are really hurting the country instead.

Well, everyone here had basically written off the race as a loss.

Hopefully, by some miracle, we actually win.

Isn't Alaska a Repubbie State!!!!!!

Yes, but they frown on nepotism and she's running against a popular former governor

If Laura made a visit it might swing the election.

This is actually good news. Lisa Murkowski is climbing in the polls now, and Tony Knowles' lead has fallen to less than the margin or error. It's essentially a tossup now, and the race is trending Republican.

Ted Stevens, Chair of the Appropriation Commitee was also appointed- Lisa has been running ads saying a vote for Knowles is a vote for Teddy et al. We know who is blocking ANWR development- we need to add to the 28 billion dollar Permanent Fund-, which is down to $911 per resident from $1500 a couple years ago.(This paid out annually.)

Well, she is a Native Alaskan! I would think that counts for something in terms of her growing up in Alaska and knowing what the needs of Alaska are.

Do the folks in Alaska know how their economy is dependent upon oil exploration and the Military bases and missle defense systems provding jobs for the citizens of Alaska?

All of which would thrive under GWB, including, I hope an reintroduction to oil exploration in Anwar, since the DEMS don't want the Windmills off the coast of Marthas Vineyard or Nantucket!

I'm from the midwest. Can someone explain why a Democrat is leading the polls in Alaska?

The problem is she was appointed by her father. That just doesn't play well with what are generally conservative folks.

I think this election is trending heavily Republican. No brilliant analysis to back that up; more gut feel than anything. Mrs. Murkowski may well win.

I must admit when I voted for Frank Murkowski, I thought that he was going to make Alaska better than his predecessor, Tony Knowles.

After he was elected, Frank had to make some really unpopular decisions. One of them was appointing his daughter, Lisa Murkowski, to fill his seat in Washington DC. At first, I thought that it was a really bad decision, but you know what? Lisa really stepped up to the plate and has done a very good job for us here in Alaska.

She has stood firm on the issues that would mean countless jobs for the whole country: The Alaska Gas Pipeline and opening up the ANWR area for oil development. She also has been instumental in many other issues that are dear to out hearts in Alaska.

Now a lot of people think that the environment and wildlife would be harmed by doing that, but let me tell you, I worked on the North Slope during the Trans-Alaska Oil Pipeline Project and that is just not the case.

Tony Knowles left this state in a shambles and Frank had to make some pretty unpopular decisions, but I am glad that he made one: appointing Lisa to fill his seat. She's OK in this Alasakan's opinion!

Did I read that President Bush signed legislation to allow drilling in ANWR today?

"Well, everyone here had basically written off the race as a loss."

Umm, no. I'm part of "everyone here," and I've been saying for months that Tony Knowles won't win. In fact, I predicted that in the end Knowles wouldn't top 46%, and so far nothing has made me change my mind.
