I think that the United States has no legitimate authority to regulate the private ownership of firearms.

To paraphrase Vin Suprynowicz, if a 14 year old girl wants to walk into Home Depot and buy a chain-fed, fully automatic machine gun and pay cash, there should be no identification to check, no background check to pass, no waiting period to expire, no taxes to pay, and no registration to fill out.

A more difficult question is whether states can legitimately regulate private ownership of firearms. Ultimately I think the answer is no, since I am of the belief that the Bill of Rights binds the individual states as well as the Federal government.

This statement presumes that war is a temporary thing as it has been in the past. And after that war is over, constitutional rights suspended for the duration of that war will be restored in full, correct?

My question to you is: What theoretical conditions must be met in order for the War on Terrorism to be declared over?

I submit that because the WoT is not a traditional style war, and by definition is a war against a method and not a tangible object such as a country(s), person(s), or army(s), it cannot be won. Even the president has stated the war will last several decades. And after a generation, restoring constitutional protections will be as unrealistic as repealing the income tax.

Because of this, WoT exceptions to the constitution are far more damaging to our rights than traditional wars. They must be considered in an entirely different way.

Perhaps they were wrongly made, but we face an enemy who moves the level of hostility to a very low level indeed. Only history will tell which of us is right. For my part, I don't mind being not on the side of the ACLU.

I think there was a typo in your title. I think it should read, "ACLU Comes Down on the Side of the Bill of Rights."

Does the "Bill of Rights" apply to terrorists? Do we Americans have some kind of a perverse, purist death wish that causes us to lose our common sense during time of war?

Message to ACLU and Muslims:

We are a big family in this country, and when the people we hire to keep us safe want to investigate potential terrorist acts by simply asking you questions in the privacy of your own home or business, you need to comply.

You have rights to be silent and not say anything at all, but you better not lie, deceive or complain about the effort we are making to root out people who may harm our children.

For if you do so, you do not belong to this family and are not welcome here.

You decide!

Go back home, find some other family if you pretend to be an American, or stay and participate willingly and proudly as a American.

It is as simple as that, and beware that you will be evicted if you choose to stand in our way.

Not by our government, but by the actions of your fellow Americans, who will most certainly take matters of family very seriously.

That is my message............heed the words, for this request is made to keep all of us safe and secure. It is not a illegal request, nor is it a violation of your rights.

If you choose not to comply and one of your brethren hurts the family, you and your compatriots will be seen in the same light.
