I was just listening to Imus In The Morning, and he and Chris Matthews were discussing where the campaign stands right now. Matthews, in a very somber voice, said that he "pours over polls every night" and he thought President Bush "has the edge." He said Bush is leading in all "Red" States (some by only 1 point but nevertheless still leading), he is picking up Iowa with a lead of "7 points," he is tied in Wisconsin, and he is pushing hard in MN, PA, NM, and MI. Matthews ended the interview by stating that Bush "is leading." This has to be ecouraging words for us when they come from someone as biased as Matthews.

My take on Matthews is that he will get quite partisan and emotional when the Dems are getting close to winning, but when they fall far behind he gets back in control of his druthers and is more the professional journalist than the partisan media hack. The fact he's quieting down is the biggest indication that Kerry has fallen too far behind, in Matthews opinion.

He also said the national polls were "tied". However, if he can admit the President is a bit ahead the President must really be ahead by more than just "a bit".

To anyone: If a president cannot serve (for whatever reason), then after the VP becomes president, how does he [VP] chose his VP? Does the new VP come from the House or the Senate?

David Gurgin (sp) was just on FoxNews. He infurred that GWB could win the popular vote this round and lose the Electoral votes.

[I have an uneasy feeling that something external could influence the election. al-Qaeda was too successful in changing the outcome of the Spanish election; the US election is too rich for them to bypass. It would depend on what happens before saying how it would impact the election. An outright attack sends voters to Bush. A more emotional hostage type situation could send voters to anti-war Kerry.]

While sobbing uncontrollably, doubtless. :)

Matthews is likely just using the Imus show appearance to scare the Democratic base into turning out. We tend to look at it as simply a talk-show appearance, but it is likely calculated and scripted by Matthews. It's what the MSM does (ex. cBS). Matthews would know the Dem registrations, fraud, and anti-Bush sentiment will add Dem votes to any polling data, so he is likely using media appearances to drive Kerry votes to the polls under the guise of a discussion of data. It is difficult to catch these tactics because we have been so trusting of the media in the past, but we are catching on.

I have a suggestion for you.
Try listening to Bill Bennett from 6-9AM ET.
It might improve your mornings and it will definitely enlighten them.
Sure beats listening to a couple of liberals! LOL

Does the new VP come from the House or the Senate?

He can come from anywhere, the new president would pick his VP, ala Nixon picking Ford after Agnew resigned.

Matthews has done everything within his power to prop up Kerry's sagging numbers. Two nights ago, after the Fox and Gallup polls showed Bush with 7 & 8 pt. leads, Chris pulled out ONLY the tied NBC poll and then wrapped the entire program in a discussion of "a tie is a win for Kerry".

It sounds like he's given up on trying to manipulate and has gone into "funk" mode. Within days that will change to "Anger at Kerry" mode.

The long knives are about to come out.
