TERESA: TEACHING ISN'T A 'REAL JOB

TERESA: TEACHING ISN'T A 'REAL JOB' [10/20 12:19 PM]

From USA Today interview with Teresa Heinz Kerry:

Q: You'd be different from Laura Bush? A: Well, you know, I don't know Laura Bush. But she seems to be calm, and she has a sparkle in her eye, which is good. But I don't know that she's ever had a real job — I mean, since she's been grown up.

What arrogance. Stunning, unmitigated arrogance!

From the White House:

Inspired by her second grade teacher, she earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Southern Methodist University in 1968. She then taught in public schools in Dallas and Houston. In 1973 she earned a master of library science degree from the University of Texas at Austin and worked as a public school librarian in Austin [until 1977].

Hey, teachers, librarians: Teresa Heinz Kerry says your work isn't a "real job"!

We can't all be ketchup heiresses, you know.

Is Jax okay now? I know the boys always do better after a snack and letting them grouse about friend X and teacher Y before doing homework.

FWIW, I feed them supper and then have them do homework now.

The only people I get upset with for public schooling are those who send their children to school as a free babysitting service. That doesn't apply to anyone on this board, though, so I think as long as parents are making what they think is the best educational choice for their own children....

Princess Bride: Probably one of the most quoted movies of all time. At least in my family it is.

Hey ya'll! I am a HSer because it is right for me. I know plenty of folks who choose NOT to HS because it's NOT for them. I know several people who HS and I feel like their kids would be better off if they didn't...but it's NOT my decision, those are their kids. And I know several people who have kids and all thy want to do is get rid of them for as many hours a day as possible -- to which I wonder why did they even bother having them!?? Everyone's different - follow your calling! OTOH, It IS annoying as a HSer to have to play taxes into the PS system and then have to pay for my own stuff on top of that, but it's a choice I made.

As for the original topic - Tuh-RAY-zuh is such a moron and everytime she opens her mouth she proves it yet again.

How's Matthew doing?

I know what you mean about public schooling. We spend a great deal of time refuting silly things that can be heard on tv, let alone in the classroom.

Thank you.

I used to send my kids to private school at a tremendous expense. Fortune changed and they went to and thrived in public school.

As I have previously stated, homeschooling is not an option for me. Quite honestly, I have a lot of tasks to take care of and I like to see my tax dollars at work.

HS or not, we all pay school taxes for the benefit of the masses. I hate like poison to hear oldsters bitch about paying school taxes while they are drawing SSI and Medicare.

Bless you and your HSers.

Everything's cool........Thanks.

Jax gets her snack when she sits down to do her homework - I've tried the snack first, and the dinner first routes.....they don't work.

Hubby called me in the middle of the melt down, from 45 miles away, by the time he got home all homework was complete and meltdown was long over.

I hope teachers hear about this. Most of them are Democrats.

I'm glad all is well.

Bob did his snack with his homework in first grade, too. It worked out well. Joey has always been an "I need to chill and eat supper then do homework" kid. Whatever works!

They are both home for the next four days (still no conference, wrong call on that! It's next friday) for Fall Break. WTH? We just slaved around the calendar from what my fogie memory remembers.

I agree. We send our daughter to school to be educated, if I want a baby sitter I pay for one I know and trust.

I applaud all homeschoolers.

Congratulations and good for you. And thank you for understanding that homeschooling is not for all of us.

I understand your annoyance at having to pay the school taxes. My parents sent my brother and I to Catholic schools for 12 years and paid tuition, along with the school taxes for the public schools and I remember as a kid saying that was wrong.

On the original topic, you are correct - and I hope she keeps opening her mouth!!!!!!

Whatever works should be the motto for everyone!!!!

Fall break? That's a new one on me. Jax is off Election day and then a 4 day weekend for Thanksgiving.

I don't understand the school system here. They build in days for snow and state teacher's meetings. They are off for four days at Thanksgiving and then nearly two weeks between Christmas and New Years.

TG, I am not working.

TG, I am not working.

You and me both!!!!!!!

Delays because of fog or rain are the big problem around here.

I give the district a lot of credit, though........they do their best to keep everyone informed. When Isabel was heading this way last year, a note got sent home on Tuesday that school would be closed Thursday and Friday. There were 2 reasons for that, the first being the safety of the children, the 2nd being the schools are the shelters.

I much prefer they err on the side of caution - even though it is difficult for many people.
