RENTON, N.J. - The wife of resigning Gov. James E. McGreevey is buying a home where she apparently will live without her husband.
Dina Matos McGreevey, 37, executive director of the Columbus Hospital Foundation in Newark, has not spoken publicly about her husband's recent announcement that he is gay and had an extramarital affair with another man.
She took ownership of the modest, ranch-style house in Springfield in the last few days, Maureen Leddy, the real estate agent who handled the sale, told The New York Times for Wednesday's editions. She declined to disclose the sale price.
Similar homes in realty listings for the area range from $329,000 to $650,000.
The McGreeveys are to leave the governor's mansion in Princeton next month, three months after the governor announced that he was gay and would resign.
The Record of Bergen County, citing unidentified friends of the McGreeveys, reported that the first lady will move into the house without her husband and is eager to put the public chaos of their lives behind her.
Friends have said the governor's wife was unaware of her husband's homosexuality. The couple have a daughter who turns 3 in December.
A telephone message left by The Associated Press at the hospital where Dina McGreevey works was not returned.
Micah Rasmussen, a spokesman for the governor, declined to comment on the report. "Their personal lives are none of my business," Rasmussen said.
The Record also cited unidentified sources in reporting that Gov. McGreevey, 47, has checked out an apartment in Rahway.
I cant help but feel sorry for her....
boy did her world turn upside down.... I want to hear the latest news about when this guy is gonna be prosecuted for using his position to appoint that goofball NJ's homeland security specialist....dayum whats wrong with people in NJ that they are not outraged over this..they were hit HARD 9-11...
Hey I talked to some guys a while back who lived in Woodbridge (he was mayor there) and they said that MCGreevy was a known homosexual then.
Personally... I care more about the fact that McGreevy has been a very corrupt politician. How he hired Golan Cipel to be his director of Homeland Security and the guy had no background what so ever... he was a poet for crying out loud. All so McGreevy could have his boy toy close to him.
I want him OUT!
I do feel sorry for her too, but she seems to be doing ok. Where I come from "Modest homes" don't come in the 650K price range.
HAHAHHAHA me either!!.....its about as close to a mansion as you can get HAHAHAHA OR IS ONE!!
I don't feel sorry for her. She publicly defended the corrupt politician and adulterer. One of these wives should stand up for truth and decency and stop lying to the American people. Hillary is her role model I suppose and politics is her religion ...
probably true...but I didnt hear her talk about anything.. I just saw her standing there looking like a deer caught in the headlights, spaced out... I dont feel sorry for him and want to see him prosecuted for using his office for his own "pleasure".....ewwwwwwwwwwwwww
Same here. Modest homes around here are $150K to $250K. But then I live out in the sticks.
LOL, that was my first thought too. Here in flyover land, that will buy you a mini-mansion.
In our part of Kalifornicate....you would probably be ashamed to live in the neighborhood the $650 would allow..
Sad...
Semper Fi
He's "out",
but he hasn't quit.
You think she really didn't know? I think she knew and all she asked of the Governor was to not get caught. Well he got caught, and that's the end.
Yeah, I understand. My brother lived in San Diego years back and moved to Indiana. He moved out of a dump of house into a nice new home at about twice the size and half the price.
:-(
Here in Jersey $650K IS a modest house price, especially where she lives. I live out in the western part and it is pretty sparse here (trees, hills, a big lake to fish on) and $650K is still modest.
As for feeling sorry for her... I do in a way but at the same time I am sure she knew it. People I know from Woodbridge where McGreevy was mayor said they knew he was gay long before he came out with it. So if they knew...she had to know.
A "modest home" in Akron, Ohio is $80,000 in a decent older city neighborhood and $135,000 in the suburbs or higher-end city neighborhoods.
or perhaps he got caught in the end...;^D
Either that, or she seriously needs to get her gaydar fixed.
