Jimmy Carter: Like Iraq The Revolutionary War Was Unnecessary!
Harball 10/18/04

Posted on 10/19/2004 7:04:03 PM PDT by notkerry

MATTHEWS: Let me ask you the question about—this is going to cause some trouble with people—but as an historian now and studying the Revolutionary War as it was fought out in the South in those last years of the War, insurgency against a powerful British force, do you see any parallels between the fighting that we did on our side and the fighting that is going on in Iraq today?

CARTER: Well, one parallel is that the Revolutionary War, more than any other war up until recently, has been the most bloody war we‘ve fought. I think another parallel is that in some ways the Revolutionary War could have been avoided. It was an unnecessary war.

Had the British Parliament been a little more sensitive to the colonial‘s really legitimate complaints and requests the war could have been avoided completely, and of course now we would have been a free country now as is Canada and India and Australia, having gotten our independence in a nonviolent way.

I think in many ways the British were very misled in going to war against America and in trying to enforce their will on people who were quite different from them at the time.

"CARTER: Well, one parallel is that the Revolutionary War, more than any other war up until recently, has been the most bloody war we‘ve fought."

I guess Jimmy defines "recent" as 1859. Is Mathews the historian? For sure it isn't Carter!!!

Remind me, when I'm as old as Jimmy, to stay home and enjoy gardening and not embarrass everybody.

Jimmy Carter is UNNECESSARY

Jimmy Carter screwed up the country so bad in just 4 years, I remember the pain I went through with him as our "leader". Not only is he the dumbest president, like you say he is unnecessary! He didn't know how to take action. At least Clinton followed through with his lustful ideas; while Carter says he lusted in his mind only. Idiot! The Revolutionary War resulted in the creation of the greatest nation on Earth and he doesn't understand.

a free country now as is Canada and India and Australia

And we'd have the Queen of England on our currency, too, like the Canadians do. Neither Canada nor Australia are fully sovereign in the sense the we are.

Jimmy Carter, you are an embarrassing old fool.

How in the hell did this person get elected to be President

How in the hell did he even get elected Governor of Georgia, for God's sake? Jimmy Carter is qualified to be a High School Principal, maybe...then again, maybe not.

Excellent point. I did not mean to imply that foolishness was a trait he acquired late in life.

Hey, hey, as long as he didn't mispronounce "subliminal".

I am SO glad that we have Reagan to quote from instead of this doof.

What a freakin' nutjob.

With his woulda-shoulda-coulda logic ANY war can be avoided.

We coulda avoided this war if...

Saddam woulda stopped invading other countries
Saddam woulda demonstrably rid himself of WMDs
Saddam woulda stopped murdering hundreds of thousands of his own citizens
Saddam woulda not been in bed with terrorism

We coulda avoided a 444 day hostage crisis had we not elected you.

I can't believe I voted for this man.

Hopefully just once. Did you see your error and correct it in 1980?
