A temporary fire in the plane has been extinguished, authorities said. As opposed to what, a permanent fire?

Did she think it was a drone?!
To: narby
No, they did that through Homeland Security and forbidding banners to fly over high buildings. It was a small story in Cleveland.

How far is this from the CDC Headquarters ? My daughter who worked in an office building across from the Pentagon on 911 had to fly from Cincinnati to Atlanta this morning.

Media comment of the day so far: WSB TV in Atlanta reporterette asks a witness if there was anyone on board the plane. Man says if there was they didn't make it!
...was anyone on board the plane? [Uh, it didn't take off from the airport without a pilot, did it?]

I don't like to bust on other FReepers, but yours was the lamest comment I've seen in a while. Total disregard for the loss of life for those in the plane and possibly on the ground. I hope the mods pull it.

If this guy had waited 60 minutes, he would have had near VFR weather. I guess he tried to beat the squal line and didn't make it.

According to Tiffany (She's gotten awful chunky lately) Cochran on WXIA, the press is being told to get out of the way by fire officials.

This happened about 2 miles from me. I live just south of Oakland Cemetery seen on the map.
It's a miracle that no one was killed on the ground. This is a heavily populated area as you would expect and for the plane to hit an abandoned building is truly a miracle. This is also near I-75,I-85 and I-20 interchange with thousands of cars passing through. The crash could have been a lot worse.
To: UB355
It's a good long ways from CDC. Also the CDC buildlings would be really hard to see from the air - they are not especially prominent.
This also demonstrates to a macabre degree how ineffective GA aircraft are as aerial 'bombs'. Not enough mass, not enough fuel.
Prayers for the victims and familes, please.
