I'M THE Democratic mayor of Youngstown, a city that traditionally gives 60 to 75 percent of its vote to the Democratic presidential candidate.
Growing up with the legacies of FDR, Harry Truman, and JFK formed my core Democratic values.
They had the courage of their convictions, their word was their bond, and the entire world knew it.
They made me proud to be a Democrat. Fast forward to 2004. John Kerry stands on the stage of Radio City Music Hall, acknowledges a group of Hollywood leftists and elitists, and characterizes them as representing the heart and soul of America.
Senator Kerry, Ohio is still in America, and in Ohio Hollywood leftists do not represent our values, our heart, or our soul.
It gets worse. My fellow Democrats in Ohio recently selected our "Democrat of the Year." Would you believe Jerry Springer?
I'm told that as a good Democrat I must honor a man who on his latest television program featured 400-pound bearded sisters wrestling in a pool of Jell-O. Springer is a man who is well known -- for all the wrong reasons.
Senator Kerry reminds me of the politician who when asked his position on the war in Iraq stands tall and responds loudly: "One-half of my friends support the war in Iraq and one-half of my friends oppose the war in Iraq. And I'm not afraid to say that I support my friends."
My support for President Bush is motivated by his stance in making national security the number one priority. Bush understands that the terrorists cannot be reasoned with at a United Nations debating society conference.
Peace through strength brought down the Berlin Wall, and only peace through strength will defeat the terrorists.
In contrast, the Hollywood leftists who've hijacked the Kerry campaign believe that Michael Moore would be a more effective secretary of state than General Colin Powell.
I'm confident that FDR, Truman, and JFK would show Moore the door with their shoe leather on his backside. That's the Democratic Party I knew and loved.
.
My granddaughters hug me when they are afraid.
My vote this year is for the man I believe will provide a safer future for all of our children and grandchildren.
That man is President George W. Bush. -- GEORGE M. McKELVEY
Hopefully a few going public will inspire many more to do so in the privacy of the voting booth.
I think that there are more of these than John Kerry will admit to himself......
Don't you find it interesting that there are so many people like this man? Ron Silverstein, <--spelling?, Zell Miller, and a whole lot more. These are well known people and people that have a lot to lose. I have to believe that the regular guy/girl, who doesn't have "a lot to lose" has to be agreeing in large numbers.
I see a larger victory than what the polls are telling us....go BUSH!
Really.
NO COMPLACENCY!..
I had heard that about Jerry Springer but didn't beleve it. Now I do.
The Mayor has always seemed a stand-up guy in a part of Ohio that spawned the likes of J. Traficant. One of the guys convicted in the Traficant scandal, J.J. Cafaro, has a daughter, Capri, running as a Democrat against La Tourette the Republican. She is supported big time by the AFL-CIO. Some things never change.
God Bless the Mayor for going against the tide.
"McKelvey bitched slpped Alan Colmes on H+C a few months back."
OK. My curiousity is too much. Why?
Dear Mayor, Thank you for your article. I think there are many Democrats out there that feel as you do -- in fact, I know there are - I've talked to them. I hope that after this election the real Democrats will take their party back -- the party of FDR, Harry Truman, JFKennedy. Even out here in liberal California there are many Democrats who are wondering what in the heck happened to their party. I agree with you - it's been hijacked by a bunch of elite, ultra-left socialist/commie movie stars, etc. and what those type of people need to do is be honest about who they are and start their own party and name it The Socialist Party of America.
Thanks again, Mayor -- and if Bush was a Democrat this year and Kerry was a Republican, I would vote for Bush, even though I'm a hard-core Republican Conservative.
Beth Barnat, born a Buckeye, raised a Hoosier and living amongst aliens in the great state of Can't-afford-ya!
Actually, he's more like Zell Miller #4. There is also Ed Kotch, and the Mayor of St. Paul Minnisota, can't remember his name.
It was only a rhetorical bitch-slapping. Sorry for getting anyone's hopes up! Colmes kept saying prepostorous things(i.e.-DNC talking points). McKelvey kept saying things to the effect of "Say what you want, Alan. Nothing else matters if we aren't safe. John Kerry's votes show he isn't interested in defending our country."
There was a time when lots of Democrats sounded like him.
Nice!
My vote this year is for the man I believe will provide a safer future for all of our children and grandchildren.

God bless Mr. McKelvey.
