I really don't understand this issue. I favor hi-tec and mass transit. I vote against ballot initiatives on principle. Just another way for Special Interests to get into my pocket? Why have a legislature at all? I voted against it in solidarity with he only other Republican I know in So. Fla

I heard a great explanation today from the local libertarian party today (which I'll now mangle). The capital market is the best discriminator of where investment is warranted; the government is the worst. When we remove market forces from the investment equation, we lose the indicators that flush out bad investments.

There was lots of controversy over the route and the number of stops. I believe Disney won some pretty major concessions, effectively locking out the rest of Orlando including Sea World, Universal, the Convention Center, etc. Eisner doesn't need the welfare.

Arizona is voting on Prop 400 which will kill the Phoenix lite rail project.

If trains and mass transit were a good idea, then they would pay for themselves. Absolute worst case, perhaps government might guarantee loans for building large projects, as we did the 1869 transcontinental railroad. But if trains can't support themselves, then forget it.
