Early voting begins in Texas today 10-18-2004
BUSY polling place this morning! That pretty much sums it up. I went to my local polling place early and got there about 2 minutes after they opened and there were already 5-6 people in there ahead of me. I commented to the election official about how I was surprised there were already folks there and he said he was expecting it to be a "mad rush" or to that effect.
Anyway, I gave him my voting card and he asked if that was still my correct address on the card. It is, of course, and he said "Oh, great! You are the perfect voter!" haha!
I had to wait a couple of minutes for the lady to finish up another "customer" at the computer and then they input my info. She also saw my card and commented that I was the "perfect voter." I take it they prefer the card because all they have to do is scan the bar code and it autofeeds the info into the computer. Well, the printer jammed and they had to close that terminal and were going to get a tech to look at it, but they printed my form off the other computer's printer.
I was in and out in ten minutes nonetheless.
Go, Dubya, go !!!!
NC Board of Elections Warning! Voting Straight Ticket Doesn't Vote for President!Dang! Now THAT stinks! Jeez!
Ouch! Dog-goned 'RATS!
Yup, good old HEB (but for me, in Austin). It is very convenient to vote there (no lines).
Texas Alert!!!
Fox News reports that the US Supreme Court has sent back the Texas redistricing map to a lower court for them to "take another look at".
Dem scum wins a big one.
LOLOL!

hahahaaa! Way to go! :^D
I am going to VOTE for W and straight ticket R.
I have my Bush/Cheney Button on.
I will vote on my lunch hour......
BUSH/CHENEY
Thanks for the heads up. The touch screen allowed me to view/review the list of candidates on the ballot after I hit "Republican". It went to the first page and I SAW the Bush-Cheney box had an "X" in it just as all the rest of the Republican candidates did.
Drive HOME to them that it is a FELONY to fraudulantly vote on a Provisional ballot...
ALSO make sure that IF you have a person who is a JR still living with the SR at the same household MATCH the birthdates.
ALSO in the event a person shows up and they are shown in the poll book as RECEIVING a "mailed ballot"...they can NOT vote!
NOW if they insist "they never received the ballot via mail"...a PROVISIONAL vote is all they get (see the county can go back and verify if they voted twice...mailed ballot and a provisional ballot sitting down at the county being counted will stir up some problems...hmmmm)....
BUT if if if they they "failed to mail the ballot" they HAVE to BRING as "proof" their "mailed ballot" is NOT sitting down at the county waiting to be counted! They have to hand it BACK to you/judge...they can indeed VOTE at the polls.
It is the quirky "events" you have to be on top of...IF for ANY reason you are NOT sure make the phone call to VERIFY steps of what to do.
Are you using computers or paper ballots?
Here in Houston we use eSlates.
BTW at the end of that LONNNGGG Election Day you will feel like a MILLION bucks...you will be a VERY proud American. Thanks for stepping up to the plate and performing your civic duty!
That concerns me. I never vote using the straight ticket lever or bubble, but vote individually for each Republican candidate. Does anyone know if voting the straight ticket and then voting for each indivual would be considered an overvote if contested?
Good for you! Thanks for the feedback regarding the big turnout this morning. GOOD To hear!
It isn't in Texas. In 2000, I worked reconciliation of ballots. If someone voted for dim party, and then bubbled in more than 1 vote for President, the vote went dim. That may have changed this year, but that is a true example of 2000. Someone voted for all Pres candidates, except W. Gore got it because of the dim bubble.
..... I'll report back.Thanks, I look forward to it. :^D
You may not be able to wear your button into the polling area. That may be considered electioneering, and must stop 100 feet away.
Straight Republicano!
I feel GOOD!
Whoa-oa-oa! I feel good, I knew that I would, now
I feel good, I knew that I would, now
So good, so good, I got you
Whoa! I feel nice, like sugar and spice
I feel nice, like sugar and spice
So nice, so nice, I got you
You mean in TX they - gasp - REQUIRE ID???
Oh the humanity!!!
My wife and were married last winter. Her name change and my change of address necessitated we get new voter reg cards. We both did the deal for new cards. Last week we got them in the mail, and both of our names are incorrect on our new cards. My name is spelled wrong, and both her middle name and last name on the new card show her ex-husband's last name, which she's obviously not using at all.
The chimps down at county are batting batting .1000 for our family. Makes me wonder if anyone benefits from mass inaccuracies in voter cards.
Thanks for the Boortz humor stuff. :^D
haha! I wasn't sure. I was guessing.A little humor here. The year after we lived in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford School district, Dad was transferred to San Antonio (Dad was career Air Force).
My brother had a pair of gym shorts that had H.E.B. on them. When my brother went to his new gym class, he wore those shorts. One of his new classmates told him he didn't know that the HEB grocery store sold gym shorts, lol!
Two weeks early?
I think the potential for fraud is incredibly high.
