It was Carter Vs. Ford, so where were you during the course of that election and when Carter claimed his victory(unfortunately). It was a pretty close race.
I was a sophomore in college, voted for Gerald Ford. I was dating a guy who was very upset that I didn't vote for Carter. We broke up shortly after the election.
Am I the only one here who has wondered about the motivations of this poster? I don't think I've ever seen such good demographics condensed on one thread since that "My relationship sucks" thread a few years ago.
Oh, and did I mention I was 29 and holding?
I still have mine. Got it at a Farmer Jack grocery store, of all places. Who was the Dem politician who wore his upside down and claimed that the resulting NIM stood for "No Immediate Miracles"?
I was probably riding my bike around the neighbourhood delivering newspapers.
first year in college, hoping the nation would learn its lesson to never ever put the RATS in-charge of the Executive and both houses of Congress again. Sadly, another lesson had to be taught -- fortunately it only took 2 years to undo (mid-term 94) and ushered in the biggest economic boom in world history.
Don't recall, but I remember the ditty "'cause Jimmy Carter has a way of messing up the S-A-U" a few years later. The 70's sure were a drag, though.
Oncoming adult maturity and Ronald Reagan inoculated me of any chance of becoming a dimocrat.
There ya go. Say it with a straight face and don't ever admit to anything different. Plausible deniability be damned.
I'm from Tennessee, too. I remember the days of Blanton and Sasser and (PITOOEY SPIT GAG) Al Gore! Ned McWorter. What a dunce!
My oldest son is now a senior in college - my middle son is a senior in high school who will be 18 in eleven days (They will both be voting in their first Presidential Election this year!!! - AND - my youngest son just turned 13 today (10/17).
Well said. I agree.
My first vote. My family was a Ford supporter. In Salem NH Ford had a campaign stop and thanked my family for our support. I voted for Carter. I was young and somewhat stupid but definitely liberal at the time. Several years later, when I got my first job selling $100K computer systems and the prospective customers complained about the 18% interest rate I quickly grew up and understood a certain level of conservatism.
Carter = Kerry. Two peanuts out of the same shell.
Holding a Peacemaker in case anyone wants to disagree with me about my age. ;-)
The last day in September of that year I had given birth to my son. I was busy being a new Mom and recovering from puerperal fever that had been misdiagnosed by my ObGyn for 4 weeks.
Unfortunately I was unable to vote due to the illness. I learned to despise Carter when I went back to work in October, 1977 since I worked for one of the major oil companies.
Yes ma'am.
Kerry would be a much, much worse President than Carter, IMHO.
America survived Carter -- I am not at all sure we would survive Kerry.
Hey Natty, I was deployed aboard the Indy with VS-28 for the 82 and 83-84 cruises. I was an E-dog, though, so I doubt if we knew each other. It's always great to run into old shipmates!
