Bush up after Kerry gaffe
The Sun (UK) ^ | BRIAN FLYNN

PRESIDENT Bush has surged to a six-point lead in his battle to stay at the White House — amid a backlash against election rival John Kerry among women voters.

Senator Kerry’s popularity plunged after he singled out vice-president Dick Cheney’s daughter as a lesbian in the final head-to-head TV debate.

The comment while answering a question on beliefs about homosexuality enraged her family.

Mum Lynne Cheney demanded an apology after accusing Kerry of a “tawdry political trick”.

Bush now leads his Democrat challenger by 50 points to 44 — his strongest lead for three weeks, according to a poll by US magazine Newsweek.

Tough-talking Bush is more popular with women and dominates among Americans aged 30 to 49. Kerry is ahead among pensioners.

He suffered a further blow yesterday as Bill Clinton — recovering from heart surgery — confirmed he would make few appearances in the run-up to the November 2 poll. Kerry had banked on the ex-president encouraging Democrats to go to the polls.

By the way, the new CNN/GALLOP Poll now has it, BUSH 52% KERRY 44%.

My mother in Ohio and my aunt in Nebraska both got polled over the weekend, so that is two for Bush.

Governator is ineligible for President or VP because he is not a natural-born US citizen. I would be ecstatic to see him serve as Secretary of State, however.

Your post is right on target! Gaffe does not equate with a blatant insult. Watching the idiot uttering his "gaffe", did you notice the noticeable pause (almost a gulp) before he said the sentence using the term "lesbian"? Kerry is a first rate P.O.S!

The real gaffe isn't being talked about much -- and was how he completely omitted any reference to his wife on the last question and made up the fiction about his dying mothers last words.

I agree. His whole answer to that last question was as cold, ugly, selfish, self-centered, cruel and dishonest as may have ever been uttered by a presidential candidate. You rightly point out the part that was dishonest. It is extremely unlikely the scene with his dying mother ever happened as he described it.

Kerry managed to use and abuse both his later mother and his wife in one statement. Anyone who paid sufficient attention to get it, had to have been thoroughly disgusted.

Kerry is a shamless buzzard.

That isn't what I wanted to use but I am being polite.

Kerry would kick a baby, rape a nun, kill a puppy, club a seal or spit on a vetran for political advantage.

Kerry is also popular among prisoners, ex-felons, and Muslim terrorists and traitors--many within America.

Actually, he has an insurmountable lead among these groups which is why Democrats want to count all these votes. They have an outreach program to these groups.

I believe that the question was addressed as, "What do you believe. . ." and he answered it with what he thought Mary Cheney believed, just like all his talking points answers. The only debate I would like to have heard was the Democratic advisers on how best to frame the answer. It was clearly a calculated response and it may have been worth it to them to take the heat, because it keeps his record off the table.

Then again, as far as Bush doing good, The Democrats haven't played their October surprise Race card yet. Also, they can't depend on what al Quaeda might do to help them, even though they have laid out the invitation.

I don't think it was meant to keep the "Conservative Christians" or "Religious Right" home so much as union types who the Democrats think they own, but who are more conservative culturally and might be inclined to vote for Bush as they did for Reagan.

Kerry won the debates, before he lost them.

Just as they say that the candidates should be trained in how they properly present themselves to win the debate, they should also train the electorate on how to assess the debates so they recognize the substance of what is presented.

The best thing they could do would be to present the debates on radio only and show video tapes only after the elections.

It's just incredible. In the first debate Kerry said he wants to arm Iran with nuclear fuel and he wants the US to pass a global test before we can defend ourselves. His numbers went up.

In the third debate he said something offensive and his numbers dropped.

I'll take it of course, but it's pretty depressing when you think about it.

Then we would never have Gore sighing and maybe he would have had 270 voters if FL vote for him instead of Bush and Saddam would still be in power.

Pat Caddell said it was a calculated moved aimed a black Christians who are opposed to the homosexual agenda. The midden message -- Bush is partial to homosexuals since his Vice President's daughter is a Lesbian. Guess it didn't work. As John Lennon or somebody said, "instant karma."
