Gonzalez, 19, died Wednesday of injuries received from enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Gonzalez was a rifleman assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton.
"He was an exemplary child. He didn't drink, didn't wander the streets making trouble," his father said. "He was a good, law-abiding person. He hoped to grow up into respected adult."
As a sophomore in Watsonville High School, Gonzalez joined the city police cadet program, and for the next 3 1/2 years, he impressed veteran officers as he grew from a cocky young man to a respected cadet lieutenant -- the highest rank in the program -- and a role model for younger peers, Solano said.

"He wanted to do something good in the world," he said. "He wasn't interested in money -- he wanted to do something good for the country.
Done and done.
I participate in the Adoration vigil twice a week at my Watsonville parish. I will offer prayers for Corporal Gonzalez and family during the coming week.
This man was a true hero indeed. We are humbled by his sacrifice.

Thank God there are still many young people in America just like him. His family will be in our prayers.
Semper Fi Corporal Gonzalez, well done. May your spirit now be with the Marines who have gone before you.
Having just welcomed my dear nephew back from Iraq at Camp Lejeune on OCT 7th, I fully appreciate what this Marine's sacrifice means. May the good Lord in His tender mercies provide a way for this Marine's loved ones and friends to in time get over the grieve and loss they now feel, and in His wisdom somehow provide them with some joy in the future.
Let us all in the future understand more clearly what the memorial day celebration in this country stands for. Let us not forget the fallen who gave their lives in service to this country.
Sir,
May I salute you for your current/past service to our country.

A Marine's Uncle.
God bless you Victor Gonzalez, thank you for your sacrifice. You will not be forgotten. Some day, Iraqi children will look at your name and know that you helped to give them their freedom. Some day, Ameican children will look at your name and know they are alive and safe because of your sacrifice.
Semper Fi Corporal Gonzalez, now it is we who must live up
to your standard.
Oooohrah!
Yes we are. God rest his soul.

Camp Pendleton bump. Prayers for the family.
I'll pray for him at Adoration, too. And you're right: he is honored, and he has done something very good, not only for our country, but for the Iraqis and for freedom and the future.
May God hold Corporal Gonzalez in his arms along with all who have given all for me and our country..May his loved ones be comforted.
We are humbled by his sacrifice and the sacrifice of his family.

Another Marine, from the most decorated infantry regiment of the United States Marine Corps, pays the ultimate price.
God bless his soul and rest in peace.

Kelly
Thank God for this hero and his loved ones!
