Presidential Election Tide Streams Out of Tampa Bay (balanced article from LA Times)
LA Times ^ | 10/15/04 | John M. Glionna

[excerpts]

Coe said he might vote for a Republican president for the first time in his life.

He's convinced that Kerry, if elected, would raise taxes on small-business owners like himself and leave the nation vulnerable to another terrorist attack. And while he called Bush "a flawed man and a flawed candidate," he said the president had at least established a track record in leading the nation.

Restaurant worker June Worrell has always known she was going to vote, she just didn't know for whom — until after the third debate Wednesday. Now she's in the Bush camp.

"The president just sounded more convincing," she said.

Worrell said her mind was made up not so much by what Bush said at the debate in Tempe, Ariz., but by what Kerry said. She thought his comments about Cheney's daughter Mary being a lesbian were inappropriate.

"I don't like prejudiced people or dirty politics," she said.

Barksdale said watching the third debate made him even more comfortable with the president. "He finally started talking about his record, which is something I've been waiting for all along," he said.

As for Kerry, "Boy, he sure is a smooth operator," Barksdale said.

"The last night I counted 11 times him talking about this plan and that plan. Help is always on the way. Well, if he was so determined to take a stand on all these issues, why didn't he do so in all his years in the Senate?"

That is a retort I wish would have been used on a number of occasions.

Let's hope she is speaking for untold millions who saw the comment for the slime it was.

Bill Clinton comes to mind.

Women voters seem especially offended by that. Kerry lost the election with that Cheney comment.

The corollary being "Let scare the Florida jews into voting Republican." Sharpton is NOT a good choice for the Democrats to be campaigning in an area with a large Jewish population.

Barksdale thought Kerry was a "smooth operator". He's beyond smooth, he's slimey.

I guess this confirms the MSM's claim that Kerry won the third debate. </sarcasm>

Sorry to sound harsh here but, the people they interviewed just seem so lackadaisical. Not to say that Kerry did not act like a complete spinchter in the 3rd debate, but, please, if the SUBSTANTIAL differences (and G.W. Bush advantages) were not long ago obvious to these folks, then I am very worried. It's like people are just living in a perpetual fog - I know I am probably preaching the choir here, but I just never fail to be amazed at how lame so many people are. They simply don't know how to even think!

Keep in mind that these people were undecided until the third debate, which means they are newcomers to the planet Earth.

Why didn't Sen. Kerry do more in the Senate? Because he is totally incapable of deciding issues on his own. He must have someone, like Ted Kennedy, telling him what to do. In addition, I've never seen a politician as truth challenged as Sen. Kerry. I've never seen such filthy politics as what is coming from the Democrats this year. Lying, cheating, stealing, and hypocrisy are being displayed by the Democrats every day, and people are beginning to respond quite negatively to it. And it's about time.
