Superintendent: 'Fahrenheit 9/11' Will Not Be Shown Again
Moore Spokesman Says High School Students Should See Film
POSTED: 8:59 am CDT October 12, 2004

BEAUMONT, Texas -- The Beaumont school superintendent on Monday assured parents that Michael Moore's film "Fahrenheit 9/11" will not be shown again in district classrooms.

Carrol Thomas said the politically charged film, shown Friday at an alternative school, had no place in the Beaumont school system.

"We don't need to be showing biased viewpoints in BISD," Thomas said in Tuesday editions of the Beaumont Enterprise.

Parent Michael Kurth criticized the decision to show the movie, based on its R rating and political partisanship. His son Matthew, 17, said that he put his head on his desk and tried to sleep through it.

Moore's condemnation of President Bush's actions regarding the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon became the first documentary to top the $100 million mark domestically. In the film, Moore examines the Bush administration's alleged financial ties to Saudi Arabia and the bin Laden family.

Michael Ryals, principal of Pathways Learning Center, said he previewed part of the film before he allowed the teacher to show it in class.

Thomas said a substitute teacher showed the movie. He said any discipline related to school employees' actions regarding the film would be a private personnel matter.

A spokesman for Moore said high school students should see the film.

"The results of the upcoming presidential election will certainly have a big impact on America's youth. Many believe that a Bush/Cheney victory could very well mean a reinstatement of the draft, so it is extremely important that voting-age men and women -- including those in high school -- participate in this election," Mark Benoit, a spokesman for Moore, wrote in an e-mail to the newspaper.

Hey guys, get a load o' this! Question is, what did the super know and when did he know it? I think it's unlikely he had advance knowledge on it, but you just never know.

Phil, I can't remember any other Freepers in your area. If you know a few, you might want to give 'em a heads-up?

Michael Ryals, principal of Pathways Learning Center, said he previewed part of the film before he allowed the teacher to show it in class.

JMO, but Michael might want to get to work updating his resume???

This is southeast Texas not Massachusetts.

Even so, the unions have had a stranglehold on Jefferson county since the late 40's. They are slowly but surely losing their grip, but not soon enough for me.

There are a couple from here (they were listed on the old Texas home page), but we've never met or had any calls to meet.
My comment on another thread.
Here is the local paper the local paper...search "film" for the related articles.

And don't foget the elderly who are here. They're a formidable group.

...that liberal babykiller Lampson has to go...
That man has a fixation with fingerprinting our children!

Rep. Nick Lampson, (D-TX)
CHAIRMAN & FOUNDER

It makes me wonder who the real "exploiter" of children really is.

Indeed. Retired union for the most part I suspect.

Fersher! The good news is he'll be seeking other employment come January ;^)

Lampson has always seemed a little strange to me. I've never heard anything, but the boy just seems to be a little light in his loafers.

Cross thread reference...My 15 year old daughter came home from school today and said to me, "Guess what movie we saw in school today?" Then she proceeded to tell me, "Bowling for Columbine."

Oh, yeah. This principal previewed the film and (as I posted on a previous thread), should be canned. Stupid to show such a despicable movie, and 'R' rated at that.

What kind of guy is this? Sheesh.

You know what Meek, we're seeing the beginnings of a larger conflict I think. The socialists have had their way for a long time. Conservatives have had enough and are starting to fight back. 'Bout time I might add. Maybe the pinkos thought we would roll over forever? I don't think so, but it doesn't bode well for the near future either.

I just hope there's enough of us old timers around that remember what this country used to be and are still willing to defend it against all enemies foreign and domestic. Was it one of our founders that said something like, If there's to be war, let it happen on my watch so my children and grandchildren don't have to fight it? I can't think of anything worse than leaving it for them to do. Our(or my) generation allowed it to happen and we have the responsibility to fix it IMO.

Another disappointing year in which Jefferson County voted yet again for the Democrat candidate. Even Orange County voted Republican this year. The people voting so are so neck deep in stupid it amazes even me! At least it was a close race...44,412 (B) to 47,050 (K)
I'm glad Poe got in though. Lampoon needed to go. He's made his future job position secure with his Missing and Exploited Children org. He's as much as said so. He must've known he would get canned.
