OPERATION SEASON'S GREETINGS BEGINS | |
In order to bring a "little piece of home" to our Troops overseas, we have joined our resources with ProudPatriots.com to kickoff our campaign. Below we will explain to you everything you will need to know in order to help us bring some joy and happiness to our Troops. Thank you to everyone that has already enthusiastically signed up to help. We greatly appreciate everything! |

How can I help? First, anything that you send is greatly appreciated. Here are some of the items that have been requested: - Phone cards (International) - Music CD's, any genre including Christian to Rap music - Books (Paperback or hardcover) **Please steer clear of political books** - DVD's (any genre of movies, but no pornography) - Electronic handheld games (can be found at Walmart, Target, or Kmart) **Make sure to send batteries as well** - Socks (any size, they will fit someone) - T-shirts (brown for work) **We thought it would be cool if our Troops received a t-shirt from various States to show that the support is nationwide. Or you can make them at home and send them along! - Portable MP3 or CD players (Maybe several folks can go in together to do this.) - Portable DVD or regular DVD players **Also a project that a group of people could put together** - Any XBox, GameCube, PS2 (Playstation 2) PSOne, DreamCast, Nintendo64, or Gameboy games. (Instead of buying new, you can find many used games locally at game stores. Make sure they aren't scratched, but they are just as good as a new one and cheaper.) -Crossword puzzlebooks or any kind of brain teaser games. - Footballs, Nerf footballs, soccer balls, basketballs, or baseball gloves, baseballs, or frisbees - Christmas decorations - Hanukkah decorations ***FOOD*** The weather is cooling down and therefore, CHOCOLATE is in order. Any homemade cookies, candies, fudge, or brownies are greatly appreciated. We would ask that you package it in a tin with no rattling. Any type of NATURAL Jerky is greatly appreciated as well. NO PORK. Any type of candy bar, hard candy, or the like is also greatly appreciated. ***IMPORTANT*** Please pack everything in baggies. As we get more requests from overseas, we will add to the list.

It has been a labor of love and we are finally getting everything in order to help our Troops in any way we can. She's been reading it already, but THANKS anyway!
I will email Frankie Mayo and ask her and get back to you.
I lucked out, my soldier had his own lap top and he and I chatted on line, via Yahoo Messenger, it was great. Unfortunately, a power surge fried his computer so he is without one now.
Thanks SO much!!!!
And don't worry, they talk about me all the time. (sniff) I'm used to it.
Thankin' ye!
Thanks, LJ!!!!
Hi Abigail! Thanks SO MUCH for writing to our troops. Something that needs to be kept in mind.....you may not EVER hear back from them.
Just keep on writing until someone writes you and asks you to STOP. Remember, the person you're writing to may not LIKE to write, but DEARLY enjoys the link from home.
I understand people's not knowing if your soldier is getting his mail or not...but as we did w/the USS Washington...we wrote & wrote & wrote.
That's MY piddly two cents worth!
You're making the ladies do the DISHES? What kind of slougher are you? (hehe)
HI PIPER!!!!!
I just stumbled upon a really cute site:
www.christmas-cookies.com. It's darling.
OW! THAT stinks!!!
I checked it out...THAT'S COOL! Did you see they have a Forum???
A Cookie Forum?
HAHAHAHAHAAAAA I LOVE it!!!
My husband was asking me last night if I had gotten any addresses of service members for him to write to in order to express his appreciation. This is even better!
I'll get started on my Christmas baking early!
THANK you!!!!
Oh, Grammie, I'm sorry...Piper has retired for the evening. Not to worry, though, I gave her kisses from all her FRiends. I do that every night.
As for DISHES...well...I was shooed away from the sink after clearing the table, loading the dishwasher, and putting away the leftovers. We share.
Thanks for the advice! I guess our worry has been that maybe we have a wrong address or something, and our letters and packages are just floating around in the sand. It was just so rewarding to get letters from and develop a friendship with our Marine, and we'd like to experience that again. Of course, that is selfish. So we will keep writing, but it's fun when they write you back!
I got some practice while my son was at officer school in Knoxville this spring! I made white chocolate pecan, chocolate chip, and coconut something or other, can't remember. I also sent homemade jam and homemade rolls, and shipped them overnight (but UPS didn't get them to him before they were 3 or 4 days old -- they ate them anyway LOL)
You ATE tomorrow night's DINNER??????
I know how you feel....I was able to email some sailors, and on those VERY RARE occassions I got an email back...WHOO HOOOOOOOOO!!!!
I've been told that someone will contact you, if the letters aren't any longer welcome/needed/whatever....
So? Get OFF the net! Write a letter! LOL!!!
On one of the Google sites I found...(I think) the writer's daughter was in college..Mom had sent cookies that ended up crumbled, stale, yech.
The daughter ate them ALL and wouldn't even share. :-)
Ummm...put the leftovers in Tupperware so I can put them away for lunch tomorrow?
Is that better?
Sheesh, Grammie, a guy's really gotta watch what he says around you, huh?
She's probably been living on Ramen noodles! I've heard that's what lots of college students eat :-o
