TOLEDO, Ohio -- In a victory for the Democrats, a federal judge ruled Thursday that Ohio voters who show up at the wrong polling place on Election Day can still cast ballots as long as they are in the county where they are registered.
U.S. District Judge James Carr blocked a directive from Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell, a Republican, who recently announced that poll workers must send voters to their correct precinct.
The judge said that voters who show up at the wrong polling place after moving without notifying the elections board, and those whose names cannot be found on the registration rolls, should be able to cast provisional ballots there.
Denying any voter the right to a provisional vote will erode confidence in the election and lessen the incentive to vote, the judge said.
"Lessened participation at the polls diminishes the vitality of our democracy," Carr said.
The decision is a victory for the Ohio Democratic Party and a coalition of labor and voter rights group, which said Blackwell's order discriminates against the poor and minorities.
This is going to get ugly isn't it? Rats are already sreaming voter fraud everywhere... Lawyers and courts will decide this one as well I am afraid.
........in as many different polling places as they can get to before the polls close.
Oh Gee .. and just how many polling places are located in this county?????
CAN YOU SAY VOTER FRAUD!!!
How can you have a legitimate election if you are voting for the wrong councilmen, or the wrong Congressmen, or the wrong mayor? Will they have ballots for every precinct in every other precinct?
poor and minorities
Just keep taking it, SHEEP!!!
Screw it, if they are going to cheat... we'll cheat too.
You are assuming that a Democrat Judge does not want Democrat voters to vote twice.
This is U.S. District Court, where do you appeal?
We're back to Florida AGAIN before the election..U.S. Court, State Court, U.S. Court of Appeals, State Supreme Court, U.S. Supreme Court...
How in the world does anyone show up at the wrong polling place? I do very little research on this and I live in an area with plenty of polling locations, yet I have never shown up at the wrong location. How does someone get this confused?
No, but you may rest assured they're the ones most likely to show up at the wrong polling place, and they're the ones involved in systematic and massive fraud across the land. This ruling helps Democrats and hurts Republicans. Count on it.
MM
I live in Ohio. I received a voter ID, and had it in hand the last time I voted. The poll worker told me she didn't need to see it.
This is a DISASTER!!!
Well, we can all sit around and whine about it, or we can do something about it. If this decision isn't appealed, then as far as I'm concerned, it's an open invitation for voter fraud - why limit that to only democrats? If they aren't going to play by the rules, why should we?
No ID required.
Vote fraud steals democracy and this man is a direct threat to our democracy.
So let's see -- Count the polling places, get a map, a bus, load them up, drive them around. Vote, vote often.
Funny since he's black.
(theorizing) So, what we have here is fraudulent voters are going to try to use the confusion of showing up at the wrong polling place in order to either record multiple votes under one identity, record votes for dead people or others who they have registered to vote but whom they are not, or voting for fictitious people using some system contribed by DNC operatives. Then, the DNC lawyers will be there to help gang up on poll workers who request that the individual show a valid registration card and/or picture ID. Those forces working on concert will coerce the poll worker that they are disenfranchising the voter and thus force them to cave to allowing them to vote.
