No Ladies’ Man (John Kerry has a lame pick-up line)
National Review Online ^ | October 14, 2004 | Carrie Lukas

Desperate men often resort to clichéd lines when trying to snare women. Senator John Kerry must be desperate, because he dragged out the tired, misleading statistic about the so-called wage gap during last night's debate; namely, that women only earn 76 cents for each man's dollar.

This factoid comes from Department of Labor data on the average wage of a full-time working woman and the average wage of a full-time working man. And, yes, if you look at those numbers you will find that the average woman earns about three quarters of the income of the average man.

But that statistic ignores many relevant factors that affect a worker's take-home pay. For starters, it doesn't adjust for number of years worked. On average, women spend about a decade out of the workforce to care for their families. It should come as no surprise to Senator Kerry that a 35-year-old woman reentering the workforce after ten years off earns less than a man or woman who worked continuously during that time.

The wage-gap statistic also fails to consider educational attainment. Today, women earn more than half of all bachelor's and master's degrees, but it wasn't always that way. Older women in the workforce tend to have less education than their male peers, which affected their career path, their salaries, and ultimately Department of Labor data.

Women and men also often have different priorities when assessing employment opportunities. One survey of working women found that for nearly three quarters a flexible schedule was "very important" when considering a job. This means that many women are willing to trade more money for more flexibility or time off.

I'm not going to give you any personal information. You might just show up with a burka to match the one your wife is probably wearing.

Shrew. Nice, but you are so preditable. And yet you claim not to hate women. There are a few other women-hating words you haven't used yet. I'm sure you're saving those for your next post.

And all your arguments are non-sensical. I provided the Newsweek article that said there is discrimination in salaries, which you ignored, because you can't face the truth.

Say it twice, but it's still the same crap you spouted moments ago. And it's still just spouting off without foundation. And we both know how good you look without foundation.

You don't know anything...which is your main problem.

Have you unlocked the wife today?

You remind me of a woman in an oft-told story.
Once there was a guy who met a woman.
Then he decided she was an idiot.
He told her so.
She didn't like hearing the truth, so she tried to prove otherwise.
But idiots are by their nature stupid.
So she failed miserably.
Funny how little things remind me of you.

And of course this little fable has the man as the so-called intelligent one. No big surprise there. Fits into your pattern of woman hating.

I particularly liked the part where the MAN decided she was an idiot. Fits your thoughts of a male dominated world.

However, I guess you never noticed what was lacking? The missing part is what the woman thought of the man. She probably thought he was MORE than an idiot. She probably thought he needed a woman to dominate in order to build himself up in the world. She probably thought it would be best not to marry such a low-esteem male who cannot dominate other men so must turn to dominating women.

I enjoy your attempts at "analysis," since they are naught but a further attempt to avoid answering any of the questions I originally posed. You call those personal, but the fact is that you are unable to answer the questions, which are highly important to your example's relevance to your opinion.

You simply fit into the mold we all suspected. "Angry man," "Male dominated world," and "woman hater" were your reflexive responses. You cannot respond to real discussion, so you insult.

You are disappointed in your job and desperate for validation as a powerful woman. Something you ain't. Claiming someone else is responsible for your own mistakes helps you feel better about it. Peachy. But no one else has to believe it when you fib to yourself. And after your last post, I'd be very surprised if anyone does.

I don't have to have things quoted to me. I see it every day when I compare men's salaries to women's at the company I work for.

Is that what you base your statement on? A simple comparison of salaries?

In my radiology department, several techs do exactly "the same job" but every one of them gets a different salary. The highest paid tech is a woman that has over 20 continuous years of seniority. The lowest paid tech is a woman with two months of seniority. In between those two, there are male and female techs all with different level of seniority all doing "the same job" and all getting different salaries.

Without taking into account the seniority that each worker has, your simple salary comparison is meaningless.

You could just as easily make the observation that, on the average, bald men (middle aged men with the most seniority) earn far more than men with acne (those straight out of high school or college who are at the bottom of the seniority totem pole).

The man or the woman that starts a job and sticks with it, full time, without taking a few years off here and a few years off there to go into the Mommy Track or to "find themselves" will end up making a higher salary for "doing the same job" as the female or male worker that makes a habit of bouncing in and out of the work force.

She ignored the same simple line of questioning from the getgo. Instead, I became "angry" and the insults started rolling.

I hope your treatment is better.

I think you are reaching for an argument. I know who has worked here the longest, the same itme, or less time. I know what their job classifications are. I know what salaries they start both men and women at.

Do you? If not, then butt out.

Since you've analyzed me, let me analyze you. You have chosen a very weak wife who puts up with your controls, don't ask me why. You were replaced at your job by a more competent woman and are still angry.

You probably only graduated high school. You are retired now so you grew up in a world where women didn't work much. You probably worked a factory job where you were always told what to do. You were raised by your mother who punished you for your incompetence a lot.

"Butt out"?

In case you haven't noticed, this is not your living room and you are not dealing with your children or your husband. This is FreeRepublic and it's purpose is to have debate on issues, especially the falsehood of many Democrat talking points that are nothing but B.S.

If you can't tolerate having your statements challenged in debate, you really don't belong here.

If it is true that your company starts men and women with the same experience and qualifications at different salaries simply because of their gender and maintains that discrimination throughout it's work force, then your company is in violation of Federal law.

If that is the case, why are you just whining and playing the poor little female victim on an Internet Forum instead of filing charges against your company with the Feds?

"Poor me. I'm a female and I'm the victim of the evil male patriarchy. I can't complain or have Federal law applied because Federal law does not apply to utterly helpless females victims like me and to the other poor helpless female victims I work with. Boo Hoo Hoo...."

Your story does not pass the smell test.

LOL. You're so wrong on all counts--every one, mind you--you prove your ignorance.

But still with the avoidance. Just answer the questions and this will all be over. We'll see why your bosses thought your male co-workers were worth more money.

As if by your comments we don't know already.

See what I mean? This woman can barely construct a response, let alone see your point. I've been dealing with her complete inability to defend her blanket statement that 'Women are paid less than men for performing the SAME job' for multiple posts, asking her just to answer the questions I asked, questions that would either demonstrate the utility of or demolish her example, and yet she just wants to trade insults.

Seems pretty obvious how those questions would be answered, based upon her evasive 'answers.'

I guess you missed the part where my company had to adjust my salary to not be subject to the law you are referring to.

I notice that when ONE female counters your arguments, you go to your ALL distribution list. Why? Afraid? Obviously you can't argue well and had to call in your buddies for support. Very sad. Proves my point.

Let me know if you ever decide to 'counter my arguments' so I can do that. And ping me when you decide to answer my questions so I can go to my 'list,' too.
