DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- An English teacher and cheerleading coach in Douglas County has been suspended without pay after being accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenage male student.
Authorities say they suspended the teacher identified as 27-year-old Kari McCarley at Alexander High School last week after another teacher overheard the boy talking about a relationship with McCarley.
McCarley was released from jail on bond.

Agreed. All jokes aside, most of us would want this to happen to our sons (or daughters). School is for learning and teaching, not scoring on students.

There are rules in place, even at colleges, about teachers having sex with students. The problem is that the teacher is always in a great position of power over the students, just like a therapist is in a great position of power over his/her patients. The problem is that attractions and feelings can develop that relate more to that power than they do to real feelings that would normally develop. Age doesn't really factor into this, though it can for young children and adolescents. This is no different than an army officer having sex with recruits, a therapist having sex with patients, or a doctor having sex with patients. Certain relationships are simply improper to allow to develop. The responsibility lies with the person in the power position to see that things do not continue to develop beyond certain acceptable limits.

I just refuse to buy the line that this guy is some sort of "abuse victim" when he has lived the fantasy of millions of boys his age. I seem to recall saying something about vicarious wish-fulfillment. Looks like I was right. You ARE approving it.

"A product of the societal hypocrisy of shielding girls from having sex at early ages, but encourage boys to be sexually active."
Likely the same folks who'll high-5 a male pal when he's taking a different woman to bed each and every night, but who will call a woman a slut and a whore if she's with a different guy every couple weeks.

I guess you missed the part of the post where I said it is immoral, adultery, fornication, and sin.
You might want to read the entire post before you jump to absurd presuppositions.

Student-teacher sex in high school is just plain wrong, no matter the gender of the involved.Personally, I'd expand that to student-student sex being wrong as well, but... *sigh*

"But, depending on the details (which we don't know) she is either involved in a loving, caring relationship with a younger man, or she is a predatory ghoul raping and stealing the innocence of a young boy."
The only difference is whether she's a wildly irresponsible power-abusing teacher lacking any moral backbone or self-control, or whether she's a sex-crazed child rapist. Either way, if the accusations prove true, she should be fired and perhaps prosecuted, if a law was broken.

That's entirely possible but many teenage boys (and girls also) have fantasies about a good looking teacher it would be
rare for a teenager to go around blatently lying about sexual
acts.
