The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Ramadan terror concerns?
Full Story

ATLANTA (CNN) -- As more than one billion Muslims prepare to celebrate Ramadan, terror experts are mixed about whether the holy month is a tool for recruiting terrorists.

Some terrorism experts and Islamic scholars say Ramadan gives extremists an opportunity to enlist new recruits.

"It's a time which can be exploited by radical clerics to motivate individuals into taking action on the basis they are somehow serving their religion," says terror expert M.J. Gohel.

And analysts see another temptation for terrorists: exploiting the Battle of Badr, a symbolic date in Muslim history, which falls near the U.S. presidential election.

"I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat."

Small Plane Crashes in Mo., Killing Two

DAVID A. LIEB

Associated Press

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - A small jet crashed in a residential area here, killing the only two people aboard, airline officials said Friday.

The crash Thursday of the Pinnacle Airlines plane appeared to destroy a garage and set a home on fire, but there were no reports of injuries on the ground, police and fire officials said.

AGAIN REPEATIN, The Evanston situation is a drill. I was monitoring my scanner and they absolutely sounded panicked in their communications. 10 minutes into it the dispatcher broadcast the "DRILL ONLY" statement. They had me convinced it was legit. It's good to hear how hard our first responders train.

Thank you, Pegita...that was wonderfully soothing. Thank you everybody. I have pasted all of your wonderful and heartfelt comments onto a single document that I'll show to my wife and we'll pack it away with little Bandit until we can rejoice in the memories after we have come to a place of peace with this.

Sorry again all. My heart is still pounding. You should hear the conversations. The PO's are all out of breath, talking about findind supposed bombs, neutralizing subjects, rescues. And this is how seriously they treat a mock incident!

But the situations as they are, I was on a hair trigger to begin with.

I'm so sorry about your cat. We recently had to put our beloved dog down after 17 years. Now we have a delightful little 4 month old pomeranian pup - and he also loves to give kisses!

Not withstanding that I live less than 5 miles from McChord AFB and Ft. Lewis....

When I was stationed at Fort Lewis with the 9th I.D. in the 1980's I lived off of (IIRC) Bridgeport and later I moved down to Olympia. There used to be a neat little bar off of Bridgeport called Captain Nemo's and a great restaurant near downtown called Flannigan's I wonder if they're still around? There was also this great little place over in Gig Harbor called...ummm I think it was The Tide's Tavern Ever hear of it? Had a parking lot that was so steep, when it iced, parked cars would slide. Ahhh the memories!

BTW, I think Fort Lewis would be a high value target (for terrorist, not the NK's) if only for the fact that 1st SF Group and 2nd Ranger Battalion are there AND it is the HQ for 1st (EYE) Corps. But it would probably be a failure, I never saw a crazier goup of warriors.

IPN is very informative - in regards to your question about the 20 youth x-ported this am IPN stated it was due to exhaust fumes from the school bus.

Brief OT on this gloomy day here in CT:

I wanted to share some fall foliage pictures, it's been beautiful up here this year! I've been posting some @ my weather underground photo gallery, found here. Once the color season wraps up I am going to create a large photo gallery for my website, but we will have a few weeks to go in parts of the state. I love Autumn in New England, too bad it is followed by winter... ;)

Just peeked at the public area of TB2000, and this piqued my curiosity:

(Posted today on the main forum)

I may have a DOT!

I met a friend for dinner last night and when I got to the restaurant, she was on a walkie talkie with her husband who was telling her that, up I-85 (north of Atlanta), where it splits to I-985, the police and FBI were there, traffic was at a dead stop, the police were making EVERY vehicle over a standard family car pull off the highway, to a rest stop where EVERY vehicle was being inspected (from tow trucks on up to tractor trailers). This was at 6:30.

When my friend was on her way home at 9:00 - she called me and said that now there were military personnel there, in fatigues, some in the woods off the highway, with night vision goggles, the police and FBI were still pulling all over size vehicles off the road for inspection, with police cars lined up on the side of the interstate to run down any vehicles that did not pull over (which wouldn't have been much of a chase anyway since traffic was at a standstill).

The really weird part (on top of all of this) is that this had been going on for at least 2.5 hours and there was NO MEDIA present.

Last evening, I was driving home from school and listening to 770 out of NYC. During the traffic break I heard of a similar thing occurring somewhere just outside one of the NYC 'burbs (don't recall exactly where). Anyway, the report was that traffic was backed up 14 miles as vehicles were being funneled into a rest area that was filled with 'flashing lights'. I got home shortly after hearing about this and never heard anything more.
