The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

ATLANTA (CNN) -- As more than one billion Muslims prepare to celebrate Ramadan, terror experts are mixed about whether the holy month is a tool for recruiting terrorists.

Some terrorism experts and Islamic scholars say Ramadan gives extremists an opportunity to enlist new recruits.

"It's a time which can be exploited by radical clerics to motivate individuals into taking action on the basis they are somehow serving their religion," says terror expert M.J. Gohel.

And analysts see another temptation for terrorists: exploiting the Battle of Badr, a symbolic date in Muslim history, which falls near the U.S. presidential election.

Not sure. I do think he is trying to portray himself as more of a religious/mythical figure than a warrior at this point though.

That rings hollow. There is nothing in that statement that identifies what actions the people of the United States might take to ensure their own security. It is meaningless rhetoric spewed to assuage his Islamic conscience before committing the act."

I took that to mean that our security in terms of being attacked again depends on us as oppossed to Kerry or Bush because we are the voters. In other words, we can save ourselves another attack if we vote Bush out of office. I don't know why I jumped to this conclusion, for some reason, it was just the first thing that came to mind.

My brains are oozing out my ears and I need some rest to let my mind clear. Unfortunately, I'll be out of the net until tomorrow PM (perhaps early AM for a short). We face the reality of not IF but WHEN the next strike will appear. I think we need to evaluate the WHEN portion of the equation.

As I posted in my last summary, the top two days for a potential attack are next Tuesday and Monday. This was before the OBL tape. I mentioned earlier that it appeared to me that both the OBL and the ABC tape indicated that an attack would be held back in order to give the american voters an opportunity to elect Kerry over Bush. There were other references to attacks focused upon Bush-states which can only be determined after the election.

Therefore I think it less than 50/50 they'll attack before the election. When Bush wins, I'd expect an attack sometime between Wednesday and Friday against work day targets. If they feel that these two tapes do not sufficiently sway the election to Kerry, I'd expect an Mon/Tues attack.

Finally, what will the scope and nature of their attack be? My bet would be on conventional truck bombs. But we have a target rich enviroment and I don't like our odds. See everyone tomorrow.

Osama knows we won't, but offering a rhetorical optional justifies his Islamic ethical requirement to warn us and provide a means of avoiding the action. When Bush is declared the winner on Tuesday or Wednesday, we have "failed" to yield to Osama's demand. He takes this as justfication to initiate the attack.

I was just asking about this either yesterday or the day before. I really can't see an attack for any other reason either before or on election day unless it's in a place (one of the major states like Cali or Fl) where Bush is ahead, otherwise it would kinda defeat the purpose of getting Bush out of office. And with that said, I just remembered why I jumped to the conclusion that I did regarding OBL's statement that our security is in our own hands...

I was thinking that it would be too difficult to be ready for an attack in every state so I narrowed my thoughts to include only those states with the largest number of electoral votes.

I am concerned about a Sunday attack.

3 days before election is consistant with Spain and Chechen pattern. Halloween provides cover for backpacks and suspicious activity. Nascar, church, shopping malls, and football events create large predictable crowds.

Also Cheney's travel plans were changed to Hawaii suddenly so he is safely out of the continental US.

Fill up the gas tanks. Have cash on hand. Double check emergency supplies. Looks like a bumpy ride.

I agree. If anything, all he managed to do was make me more determined to vote for GB...this will be my first Republican vote.
