The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

ATLANTA (CNN) -- As more than one billion Muslims prepare to celebrate Ramadan, terror experts are mixed about whether the holy month is a tool for recruiting terrorists.

Some terrorism experts and Islamic scholars say Ramadan gives extremists an opportunity to enlist new recruits.

"It's a time which can be exploited by radical clerics to motivate individuals into taking action on the basis they are somehow serving their religion," says terror expert M.J. Gohel.

And analysts see another temptation for terrorists: exploiting the Battle of Badr, a symbolic date in Muslim history, which falls near the U.S. presidential election.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Walmarts around the country are going to be selling out of ammo this weekend. I can almost here the old gun lockers and safes creaking open.

We may die by the numbers, but there will still be people standing in line to vote. Maybe with tear stained faces, but we'll be there.

The threat from OBL is for after the election, not to disrupt the election. If you are in a state that votes majority Bush and he is elected, THEN we will come get you. If you want to save yourself, vote for Kerry.

As to his hope for a second Bush term, I doubt it. He is impotent. Just like his threat against the European coalition members in the Spring that never materialized, this is a veiled threat to dissuade Bush leaning states.

If he had the means, as was said earlier, he would have sent a bomb instead of a tape.

I live on Long Island, 45 minutes away from where the WTC existed... i was in the city on 9/11, working at St. Marks comics on St. Marks Place, about a 20 minute walk from WTC...i will research anything thaty can help save the lives of me and my fellow americans

You know, I was thinking about this for about 1/2 the day and at first I thought that if, god forbid, there were an attack before the polls were closed and I was told my vote wouldn't count if I didn't already get it in, I'd be ticked but then I figured heck, if there were an attack, the last thing I'd be concerned with would be my vote, I'd be more worried or caught up in what was happening and the people caught in any attack (assuming I'm not one of them). At this point, I'm of the opinion (at least, until someone points out something else that I haven't taken into account) that under normal circumstances, when the polls close, they close, that's it. These are new times; everyone is well aware of that, so if people are that concerned about their vote then they should just be a little bit more responsible with their vote if they want to ensure that it will be counted because I think the only thing to do if there should be an attack, would be to just count what can be counted, whether it's 2 or 2,000...the poll's closed, end of story; that's the way it's always worked, that's the way it should continue to work.
