(Senator Mark) Dayton (D-MN) Closes D.C. Office Over Security Concerns. Advises no travel to D.C.

WASHINGTON-- Sen. Mark Dayton said Tuesday he is closing his Washington office because of a classified intelligence report which made him fear for the safety of his staff.

Dayton, D-Minn., said the office will be closed while Congress is in recess through Election Day, with his staff working out of his Minnesota office and in Senate space off Capitol Hill.

``I take this step out of extreme, but necessary, precaution to protect the lives and safety of my Senate staff and my Minnesota constituents, who might otherwise be visiting my Senate office in the next three weeks,'' he said on a call with reporters.

``I feel compelled to do so because I will not be here in Washington to share what I consider to be an unacceptably greater risk to their safety,'' he said.

Dayton said he could not describe the contents of the top-secret intelligence report, which was presented to senators at a briefing two weeks ago.

``None of us can predict the future,'' he said. ``I hope and pray that the precautions I've taken will prove unnecessary.''

Asked what advise he would have for Minnesotans who want to travel to Washington over the next few weeks, Dayton said, ``I wouldn't advise them to come to Capitol Hill. I would not bring my two sons to the capitol between now and the election.''

Maybe he should hire some of the West Virginia AFL-CIO thuggies for security.

If only I had known. This Minnesotan ate lunch on capitol hill just two days ago.

This kind of chicken little alarmist crap isn't helpful, especially as it exposes "secret" briefings.

If I went around telling people veiled references to secret briefings I've received, that would be a BAD THING. Stupid Mark Dayton.

Shouldn't matter even if the lords of the senate were told the attack was tomorrow. If our guys in the field are up to it, so should be our glorious elected leaders.

It's classified, yet this little girl tells the press and closes his office?
This is too bizarre.

is he trying to drum up a scare effect and a stampede of the sheeple--thinking that the President is keeping something from them?

chs68 to Mark Dayton:

While you and your staff are cowering outside of the Washington, DC area, can I be permitted to use one of the "Reserved For Staff Only" parking spaces near the Capitol??

What a pantload...

This guy will be back here in MN lending his hand to the dems campaign. Probably got wind from some our so-called 'progressive' leaders, whining about how much trouble they're in because they no longer are considered a shoe-in state for ANY Democratic candidate.

"Oh, Marky - PLEASE HELP US! We are lost without your money connections - er, your progressive intuition!"

BTW, isn't the Wellstone anniversary coming up soon? I'm sure he'll do some memorial photo-op. I'm so ashamed - I'm a Minnesotan, and how quickly I forgot that date...(!)

.... and he sent me back a nasty email about how he won't "infringe on someone's rights" I wish I would have saved that email, I know I screwed up I was pissed off and read it and deleted it.
Then A little while later I knew that I should have saved it.

Just resend the letter / email...
Express the same or similar sentiments..
Make no mention of the fact you have written before..

The Senator will undoubtedly respond with an email response very similar or identical to what he sent before..

Save and distribute..

So, a senator can be informed of potential threats, but average citizens can't be? "Classified intelligence reports." BAH!

Yes. In case you hadn't noticed, we have a Republic. The responsible people have a Need To Know. If we had a Democracy, then your complaint would have greated traction as everyone would be responsible for the government's operation.

Oh, and by the way, those "average citizens"? They include enemy agents. If they knew what we knew, then they'd be able to figure out how we knew and kill our agents. Then we wouldn't know anything anymore.

If the Islamikazis are stupid enough to blow up that useless body of preening, bloviating politicians otherwise known as the "US Senate", they are dumber than I give them credit for. They couldn't pick a more vainglorious target.

I swear, there are more dunces per square foot in that chamber than there is anyplace else in Washington and maybe the entire country, with the exception of the Democrat side of the House, the Department of Education and the INS (but, I am beginning to repeat myself here).

Just imagine how invigorating it would be to start anew with a fresh clean slate, free from these timeserving rascals who have been tormenting us year upon crawling year as they sit fat and happy in their elected-for-life positions - with a few notable exceptions, of course. All we would really lose are contestants for Windbag Champions Of The World - somehow currently outclassed by the UN, but not by much. Of course, it would be far preferable if they left on their own volition, but that is unlikely to ever happen. The pillows are too soft, the feedbags too large, and the egos too monstrous.

So, as they say, maybe we shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth?

"I'm not so sure this should so easily be dismissed as "Chicken Little" talk. The election is just three weeks away folks, and let's not kid ourselves, the radical Islamic scum would love to prove that they're still capable of pulling something big off. If the administration put out this message I think we'd probably be taking it fairly seriously."

I don't think anyone is dismissing the seriousness of the threat. We all know what those evil f***ers want to do to us. The problem is that he asked to be placed in a position of leadership and he's bugging out. Leaders don't run. They stand their ground.

What do you expect from a guy that spent the late 1960s hiding out at Yale completing a degree in psychology? And he's also been a runaway youth home director and a social worker.

I'm flying to D.C from California next week for a week's vacation. I'll stop by the Senator's office and slip a note under the sniveling coward's door telling him that some of us will continue our normal lives and routines while he trembles in his shoes back in Mn.

Are we "little people" even still allowed to enter the Capitol without an appointment?

First thread on this. That "exaggerated" terrorism threat is such a "nuisance".
