I tend to agree...My father is British, so our family has many chance to go over to the old 'homeland' on an occasion or two. Every once in a while, I'll come across someone who has to verbalize something about the 'dirty Yanks', but generally speaking, everyone is polite and is glad to have Americans on their side...I have many acquaintance there - some of the most conservative, and God fearing people I know - yet unfortunately, are quite pacifist and hesitate to support us in our endeavour in the middle east. But it's all politics, and we move on to things that are more important in our friendships. If the verbal/physical attacks were as prevalent as described in the article, we would be hearing about this more. I also have several friends and acquaintances that travel and do business in Europe. Every once in a while, they get a brief exchange or could shoulder or two, but in general, they are received politely, and enjoy their stay.

Gathering as much background as I can get without raising any hackles, the impression that I get is that most of the attitudes truly come from an environment and a media that bombards them 24 hrs. a day with ant-American/Jewish sentiment. I guarantee you if we were under the same duress, many of the us would eventually get the same notions. This is why it is critical that there is an overwhelming victory in Iraq and Afghanistan, and hope for a complete turn around and acceptance of the local people to help sink into the heads of the Europeans that we don't have alterior motives. We will never get to that point if we give up and go another direction...I don't think I could handle 4 or 8 years of Kerry going around the world and apologizing and humiliating ourselves....

Quality was a hallmark of British goods up until the 70's and Japanese goods were generally classified as junk.. Now it is hard to find anything the Brits make that could wear the badge of quality...their luxury cars for instance have been bought by American firms. The Japanese on the other hand emit quality in all their goods from cars to electronic items. Interesting switch isn't it??

This woman should have further defined her antagonists - her problem is with the international LEFT, not british per se.

The Left thinks & behaves the same all over the world.

The problem with the upcoming election is that it won't be a fair one. The dark powers will do anything to steal the election for Kerry since he is the most corruptible politician available.

The dead will vote twice on Nov. 2nd.

When we were stationed in England, we lived in Lakenheath housing. There was a farmer there who hated the Americans so much that he'd leave mounds of manure in his fields, to try and stink us out. After a year of the stench, the village turned on him---finally. The last year we were there was wonderful, you could open the windows and just smell the night air.

That was the only problem we ever had there, the English were friendly.

Do you see what this is all about? We still represent a CHRISTIAN and ZIONIST worldview in the US. We are about the only nation left to do so. We are Israel's only true friend.

They hate us because we (STILL) love God (and I don't mean Allah).

This is also indicative of the dichotomy within the US itself-- the Christian right versus the pagan left.

Sad to say but you're right. Although there seems to be some fine Christians emerging from Africa as I've seen about the homosexual issue in various churches, the bastion for Christian civilization is still the United States. Personally I'm feeling so resentful of Western Europe is that if it were not for strategic reasons, I would probably left them under Hitler's boot. I'm glad to see that there are reasonable people over there, Mad Ivan come to mind, and of course nations as well such as Poland and many Eastern Europe nations.

Unbelievable. I visited England many times during the 80s while I was flying in the Navy. At that time the English were always pleasant and courteous. They seem to have gone insane.

I'm amazed at the anti Americanism. Not the anti Semitism, though both are equally rabid as narrated here.....

I live in North London, possibly the most left wing part of town. I see Americans here all the time. I have no idea what she is talking about.

This article has been posted at Little Green Footballs, too. Some of the posters there also doubt her veracity, based on either their own experiences in the UK not matching hers, or because of her profession making her a likely "drama queen"-as well as making her more apt to run into moonbats. OTOH, her experiences do coincide with many editorials and comments about antiamericanism in different EU countries, as well as the experiences of some of the LGF posters. I think it is possible that she may be conflating a few personal experiences with tales she's been told from other American friends and acquaintances.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. If we think that the news over here is biased it's nothing compared witht the incessant left wing bias of the media in the UK. The BBC attacks Blair from the left and ITN, Channel 4 etc are no better. It's distressing to see but it appears that the Brits, as a whole - there are exceptions viz Madivan, have lost the ability to think for themselves.

It is an amazing article. I have visited London every year for the last thirty years and have had many experiences with anti-Americanism - but nothing like this. I must admit, though, that last year - with the upcoming state visit by Bush - the Brits seemed to go wild. There were protests in the streets every day followed by buses with bullhorns going up and down Piccadilly screaming out Bush-hatred and Michael Moore having them queue up in the droves at Waterstones. And don't even mention the ire raised when a Presidential helicopter mussed up one of the Queen's gardens!

A conversation I had with the usual seemingly polite Brit ended up with him spitting out Bush/Blair hatred until I stopped him dead by mentioning the unspeakable Galloway.

On the plus side, I recently found a conservative radio talk show host (it may have been BBC London, but who knows) there and was pleasantly surprised. Can't wait for my next trip in November!

Oh my goodness. It seems like i'm reading a story from 1936 or 37 Europe.

It seems like it because you are. European Jews had better get out while they can because it will only get worse. The past few decades of European post-Holocaust toleration are an aberration that has come to an end. Europe is reverting to form.

Without a doubt, the number one cause of anti-Americanism is the media and its leftist lean across the globe.

Here in Taiwan, the nastiest anti-Americanism is usually spouted by the Germans, French and then the obnoxious Brits in that order. The Taiwanese here think they are silly with their slogan-filled bitching.

A friend of mine was working in Hong Kong when 9/11 happened. He said that his Chinese co-workers had nothing but concern and sympathy. His Brit co-workers didn't seem to care or were privately happy.

Europe has made its own bed. Let's see if they can fight off Islam in the next 50 years. I don't think they have the cojones to defend themselves.

Having just returned from three week tour of Scotland and England I have to say that there is a marked difference in the way my wife and I were treated by our Hosts and the people in general in those two Counrties.
We were recieved cordially and respectfully in all our travels throughout Scotland From Edinburgh to Wick, and back again. A wonderful experience.

England on the other hand when we tipped our hand by speaking we were treated with an abrupt chill by Cabbies,
hotel desk personal, and in several restaurants.
On the doubledeck tour busses in London the young tour guides would look at us,and deciding that we were yanks
would launch into an anti Bush tirade. Or tell everyone on the bus that the English liked the American gift of a statue
of Abe Lincoln so much that they hid it behind a schrub so they wouldn't have to look at it.
We determined to keep our questions, and remarks to a minium
and get to Heathrow as quickly as we could.
Loved Scotland. And will go back. England.? They can have it.

This woman lived in London. Residents unlike most tourists meet locals outside the normal tourist channels.

I don't doubt her veracity one bit. She is, however, relating incidents that happened over a longer period of time than that spent in the country by visitors.

If Carol thinks England is getting bad, she should try being a conservative who lives and works in downtown Seattle.

It's a universal trait that the further left you are, the more loud, rude, hate-filled and annoying you are.

Good point. I hear that this is quite true.
