In 1990, John Kerry's Father, Richard Kerry, authored a book called Star Spangled Mirror. According Kerry's father, America's has a flawed foreign policy - the assumption that other people ought to share our view of world order. In essence, Kerry's father argues that democratic universalism is a flawed US foreign policy.
Kerry's father even stated: "It is the specter of Western Imperialism that causes more fear among Africans and Asians than communism, and thus it is self-defeating."
In his book, Kerry's father further even: "Seeing the Soviet Union as the aggressor in every instance, and the U.S. as only reacting defensively, relieves an American observer from the need to see any parallel between our use of military power in distant parts of the world, and the Soviet use of military power outside the Soviet Union."
Kerry was born the son of a minor State Department
hack whose anti-American sentiments are echoed by
John Kerry. Kerry has always been a collectivist
sympathizer. Some things about this man have never
changed, and it is only these things about which he
can be expected to be consistent and predictable.
Here's a very revealing story on it from a pro-Kerry
source (The New Republic):

Can somebody please direct me to the link for TODAYS washington post poll thread, my thread was pulled but three different searches came up zip, zero zilch for it.
Another question. I wonder if this book was written at the same time as the run up to the Gulf War. That would help explain Kerry's opposition.
The only real international opposition to moving against Iraq came from Gorbachev and the USSR.Right up to the end he tried to save Hussein. He wasn't trying to allow Hussein to keep Kuwait and he knew we were not going to Baghdad. He was trying to preserve Hussein's Army as a presence in the region and as a puppet of the USSR. Was Kerry's father also such a puppet?
A Blame America First apologist
The same old moral equivalence school rears its ugly head.
They come from the envy and resentment school of life. Like the Rosenbergs.
Always envisioned Kerry's father as having horns and a pointed tail. No wait, I'm thinking of his wife...
I personally "liked" the part about "America clinging to the pariah of freedom" or something like that.
Or the communists who are the piranah's of freedom.
They bite the hand that feeds them.
