Fox Ignoring Bush On Substance
Fox News | 10/9/04

Posted on 10/09/2004 7:18:31 AM PDT by Williams

President Bush demonstrated a steady command of every issue last night. All I see on Fox is a simple quote about being steady in the war on terror. But they keep playing Kerry's laundry lists of complaints. And everyone is manufacturing discussion of how Bush "jumped" up to answer questions, etc., even though the President behaved as a gentleman and statesman.

Bush made numerous points against Kerry's record and proposed plans. I am not seeing those either. It's as if Bush had no memorable lines, and he had many. And they are not touching Kerry's pathetic statement that Sadamm would "not necessarily" be in power if Kerry were president.

It also seems as though the banner quotes they are running at the bottom of the screen highlight the Kerry charges. They're all pretending Bush did not accuse Kerry of anything, and he sure did.

I gave Fox another chance this morning, but I was telling the wife again to turn it off, that I'm done with Fox News.

Bush had memorable statements on topics Kerry would be expected to score on. Bush was terrific in nailing Kerry on the stem cell and abortion questions. I certainly thought Bush did a great job in explaining the tax cuts. Bush charged Kerry as not credible, tagged him as the most liberal Senator, did a terrific job of showing Kerry is not suited to lead an alliance.

I think Fox should be accused of false advertising. "Fair and balanced" seems to be a bait and switch for "We think Kerry might win so let's start kissing his butt now." Oh, and last night I had to watch people grade Kerry higher in the debate and listen to Greta Van Sustern try to tout their on line poll showing Kerry winning by more than two to one.

Fox is acting as if the ABC memo was written by Roger Ailes.

Memo to Fox:

Kerry contradicted himself within a few minutes last night on Iraq.

At one point he said that he's always thought Saddam was a threat and has never changed that position.

A few minutes later he said the president took his eye off the ball and went after Saddam even though he wasn't a threat to us.

I've noticed the same...

FOX NEWS was criticized by the liberals and leftists...simply because they report facts omitted by the "mainstream media". I believe Fox is becoming too sensitized by these baseless criticisms and is reaching out in the wrong direction.

Time for Fox to get the message. Switch channels.

Bulls and Bears -- all of them so far -- say Bush won.

No one can objective say that Kerry won the second debate. It was as if the two debates were reversed. Kerry lost on both style and substance. Bush looked like a President and Kerry did not.

Even on style I thought GW was stronger. Smooth, funny, factual and rarely had to search for a word.

Kerry on the other hand stuttered a lot, repeated himself often and was frequently reduced to babbling rants.

I don't mind being challenged in my beliefs, but I'll be damned if I'm going to be insulted by someone telling me that what I saw wasn't what I saw. Fox News needs to take another look at the debate, a reasonable look. And then report back. There is a problem here, but I don't think it's with US>

WHAT is going on with the people at Fox??? I am especially surprised at Brit Hume, who I consider(ed) to one of the fairest people in journalism. I don't expect any Fox journalist to be a cheerleader for Bush; if the president makes a mistake (such as the Medicare bill, etc.), I want them to jump all over him. But in the face of enormous popular evidence of his success and outreach, they practically ignore him and favor his opponent. It's not so much that they are jumping on a Kerry bandwagon, but they seem to be omitting quite a bit of positive Bush news. Hannity and some of the commentators are still in good form, but I have no idea what's going on with Brit Hume's gang, Bill Kristol especially.

I so agree with you!! I was disgusted with them after the first debate, but even more so last night! And I saw just a little of Fox & Friends this morning before I had to turn them off. I don't know when I'll ever turn them on again. So now who can we trust? Now that Fox News is beating the MSM in ratings, have they taken on the same characteristics as the MSM? Don't they realize what it was that PUT them into such a good position?? If they keep bending over backwards (and into pretzel shapes) to appear to be "fair," no one will believe them any more, either.

I was going to write to Fox and tell them how I felt, but now I think that if they're becoming like the MSM, why should they care what just one person thinks??

Disgusted in Texas,
SueAngel

Apparently Fox News thinks their ratings are to high and they are seeking to remedy the situation. They will, THEY WILL!

He also didn't just contradict himself in several spots, but he continually ignored the questions choosing instead to attack Bush, often on completely unrelated issues.

What have these "debates" if all that the Dim candidate does is use his time as an open mike! Gibson should have been all over that and if I had been Bush I would have pointed out in my closing statements,

"What you saw here this evening was a candidate challenging me who was asked numerous questions about his plan(s). In response he mostly attacked my record on unrelated issues and evaded the questions altogether. You, the American people know my positions through experience as well as my having answered the questions here tonight. But let me ask you, how many of you can clearly lay out any new details on the senator's plans. He was asked many questions on them, but opted not to lay them out for you nonetheless!"

Slam dunk, home run, TD return! Debate, game, election over!

"I gave Fox another chance this morning, but I was telling the wife again to turn it off, that I'm done with Fox News."

Same for our family - and that's four more fans they've lost. Hubby works in a service-type business. He made sure Fox was always on in the waiting area - guess what? Now he makes sure Fox ISN'T on!

Wow, I just freepmailed a friend that I now realize the pundits, even on Fox, do not count content or substance of a debate when determining the "winner".

Even on style, Bush won big time in my book. But the substance was a no contest. It was hands down Bush all the way with Kerry a stuttering, rambling phony.

You are spot on.

Oh, and where are the raised eyebrows over Kerry saying he could tell by looking around the room that the only ones there in the over $200,000 tax bracket were himself, Bush and Gibson?! I predict that will eventually emerge and impinge on the consciousness of even the Beltway Boys.

One more note. As I surfed around I was very surprised to see Chris Matthews say that Kerry fumbled the stem cell question while Bush had handled it well. That has been one of Matthews' pet topics, so it was quite a concession.

"And I saw just a little of Fox & Friends this morning before I had to turn them off."

That makes two of us darlin'. This morning represented the last time I will ever turn the channel to those three light-weights. It really is dumb and dumber and ignorant to boot! They are possibly the most ill-informed trio in the news business. I am going to compose a very serious letter to Roger Ailes this morning suggesting that he replace at least one of them...and I do not care which one...with an individual that reads something besides the comics.
