'SLANTED' ABC TAKES THE HEAT (ABC News tells its reporters to go after Bush)
NY Post ^ | 10/9/04 | Deborah Orin

Posted on 10/09/2004 1:04:02 AM PDT by Cableguy

ABC News was under fire last night after an internal memo surfaced suggesting President Bush should be held more accountable for his statements than John Kerry.

The memo to staffers from the network's powerful political director, Marc Halperin, noted that while both campaigns are distorting the truth, Kerry's bending of the facts shouldn't be hit as hard.

"Kerry distorts, takes out of context, and mistakes all the time, but these are not central to his efforts to win," Halperin wrote.

But "the current Bush attacks on Kerry involve distortions and taking things out of context in a way that goes beyond what Kerry has done," Halperin added.

Halperin further advised the ABC staff to keep that in mind when reporting.

"We have a responsibility to hold both sides accountable to the public interest, but that doesn't mean we reflexively and artificially hold both sides 'equally' accountable when the facts don't warrant that," the memo continued.

"It's up to Kerry to defend himself, of course. But as one of the few news organizations with the skill and strength to help voters evaluate what the candidates are saying to serve the public interest, now is the time for all of us to step up and do that right."

A spokesman for ABC news insisted "we are not interested in taking sides, we are only interested in getting at the truth."

Halperin plays a mostly behind-the-scenes role at ABC, and is known as the father of "The Note," a daily political memo that is read by thousands of D.C. insiders, political players and journalists.

I had heard about Indymedia and Rackspace but did not know of a Soros tie. While searching for more info - came across this Houston Indymedia which has planned a "Halliburton Awareness Month" http://www.protest.net/HIMC/calendrome.cgi?span=event&ID=497917&day=14&month=&year=2004&state_values=
An excerpt: "October 2004, Halliburton Awareness Month, will feature 3 teach-ins with author Sonia Shah, journalist Robert Bryce and writer-activist Rahul Mahajan, films screenings, music events, creative direct action, lively demonstrations and media events. On October 28th at 4pm, a loud lively non-violent protest to Stop the War Profiteers will rally at Mid-Town Park (located at Bagby and W. Gray) and then march to Halliburton's subsidiary, KBR, headquarters at 601 Jefferson in downtown Houston.

Sponsors and Endorsers of Halliburton Awareness month include Houston Global Awareness, Global Exchange, Texas Fair Trade Coalition, Code Pink, Harris County Young Democrats, People for Progressive Radio, Maryknoll House, Latinos Por La Paz, Halliburtonwatch.org, Peace Action-Houston, Mama’s Brigade, Austin against War and others."

Everything you said is true but let me add in the factor of Supreme Court nominees under Kerry. Now that is scary and we can kiss our American way of life goodbye.

Halperin Memo Dated Friday October 8, 2004

(Body of Drudge 's Report)

If this memo is factual and proven to originate from Mr. Halperin, I will NEVER watch your 'news' again!
I am quite capable of 'evaluating' what I see and hear for myself!

I think we can safely say we have found

Oh I couldn't agree more... All Voters must be informed of exactly what is at stake in this election... that is why I am glad Kerry's liberal tag stuck tonight and the question about the judges came up... the more people digest this the more turned off to Kerry they will become and hopefully the more determined to vote for GWB on 02NOV... At least the electorate will be highly motivated to get out and vote. I am expecting long lines at the polls and will not hesitate to wait.. I hope the liberals and young voters that got scared by the dems about the draft meet with long lines and get de-motivated to wait in them.....

Can't we get a copy of this memo and give to Danny
"Boy" Rather. It is his chance to show his fairness...
as he always says on CBS..we were fair yesterday, today,
and will be fair tomorrow....or some similar drivel..Jake

This just proves that the elite liberal MSM think Americans are stupid and need their help understanding the issues. Well, they are half right. Half of the voting public (brainless liberals) are stupid! The MSM used to be more subtle and clever about twisting and tilting the news to the left, but now they hold nothing back and it is obvious even to a third grader!

AMAZING Quote from Halperin's memo:

I'm sure many of you have this week felt the stepped up Bush efforts to complain about our coverage. This is all part of their efforts to get away with as much as possible with the stepped up, renewed efforts to win the election by destroying Senator Kerry at least partly through distortions.

It's up to Kerry to defend himself, of course. But as one of the few news organizations with the skill and strength to help voters evaluate what the candidates are saying to serve the public interest. Now is the time for all of us to step up and do that right.

He also says they have a "grave responsibility"--- basically to help kerry win.

The UN tried that before and failed.

IIRC the first act of Bush after he was sworn in was to send Richard Bolton(?) to the UN and veto their little ploy at international small arms control (aka pistols & rifles).

Now I haven't went to the UN website to verify their latest ploy, but in any case the Senate cannot by itself ratify a treaty, ergo they couldn't bring this up for a vote. All treaty's are first negotiated and signed by the POTUS and then sent to the Senate for ratification.

Plus there's no way that Bush would sign such a treaty and secondly the Senate would not ratify it. Even the RINO's know they'd be thrown out of office. In addition, if such a bill was on the calender, there wouldn't have been such a stink raised over the AWB expiring.

If you have any direct links to the UN on this or the Senate Bill Number, please furnish, I'd really like to read the details,

Thanks.

Key talking point: Social Darwinism

The bias by the news media has so protected the Left for so long that their "herd" has grown weak.

In contrast, the constant attacks and subtle slants of news against conservatives over time has culled the weak from our herd (e.g. Senator Packwood being run out of power for kissing a staffer on her lips, Senator Lott resigning his leadership post for telling a one line joke at a birthday party, etc.) and made us strong.

So to even be competitive, the Left now has to lie. AP reporter Tom Hayes fabricates "Boos" at a Bush rally, NY Times journalist Maureen Dowd fabricates a quote of President Bush, and CBS runs with clearly forged documents.

But because the Left has grown so weak, even these outright fabrications are too little to help them. Our herd has grown so strong that we easily find and debunk such nonsense, and thanks to technology, we debunk the Left much faster than the Left is accustomed to moving.

We've adapted to the new world order of technology. We've changed with the times. We've grown stronger. They've grown weaker.

It's Social Darwinism writ large.

Well, I think we need to stop referring to news journalist/reporters/anchors whatever as stars. Stars they are not. They report the news and that is it.

My favorite is Charles Krauthammer beyond the shadow of a doubt.

I like Brit but...he's getting rather annoying as he is interrupting too much and that's what soured me on Hannity and O'Reilly.

Another thing when Brit announced prior to the debate about the memo from ABC and Marc Halperin...Brit mentioned Marc was a froemd and was a "good guy."

Also he mentioned about Charlie Gibson and that he was a friend. Once again, what does that have to do with anyting? It was almost that he wanted to let everyone know he knew these two guys as friends and seemed he wanted to interject his feelings about them instead of just reporting about the memo and the debate. Some of these little things with Brit lately are turning me off.

Charles says what he sees and states the facts. Maybe sometimes I may not like what he says but...Charles is Truly "Fair and Balanced."

If these people want to slant the news, that is fine. But let them have a big D branded into their foreheads.

I left the Dem party at the same time, especially when the network news outfits began gloating months later on how their propaganda changed the polls to later favor Anita Hill's version of the events.

This hit home at the time because I had recently taken a Psych college course by a very COMPETENT instructor in which he continually stressed and warned all of us about the tax payer funded studies and research that had been done in order to find the best way to try to influence and direct the thinking of the American public.

When I saw the Media's attempts to spin the hearings, I could see his words in action.
