Kids and Teenagers Prefer Bush Over Kerry

Rochester, NY – October 4, 2004 – A new survey by Harris Interactive® shows U.S. kids and teenagers aged 8-18 currently prefer President George W. Bush over Senator John Kerry by 48 to 38 percent. This 10-point margin represents a large shift from August, when the poll had shown a 46 to 40 percent preference for Kerry.

The poll shows that both boys and girls prefer Bush to Kerry by similar margins, but that older teenagers (aged 16-18) prefer Kerry to Bush by 43 to 39 percent. Bush’s job approval rating among kids and teens is currently 54 percent positive and 46 percent negative.

"Historically, polls of children have had a remarkable track record at predicting presidential election outcomes," according to John Geraci, vice president of Youth Research at Harris Interactive. "There has been a significant swing in the numbers recently toward Bush. Specifically, we have found that girls in particular have changed their preference from Kerry to Bush in the past month. This could be a bounce from the Republican convention or it might reflect a tendency young people have towards the familiar as Election Day approaches."

The poll also shows that kids and teenagers are more likely to say that Bush would do a better job than Kerry on making the world a safer place for children (40% vs. 27%) and improving education (37% vs. 29%). Young people gave John Kerry an edge on helping poor children and their families (35% vs. 30%), protecting the environment (28% vs. 25%) and ensuring that they can afford college some day (30% vs. 29%).

I've been of the opinion that today's kids will grow up more conservative than their parents. I thought this was interesting.

Well of course... They rebel against their parents! They see what the self-absorbtion of these idiots did!

Every generation rebels against the one before it...

Understandable. The President reminds them of their Dad or Grandpa, and Scary-Kerry reminds them of the wierd uncle that forced them to sit in his lap as toddlers and grade-schoolers.....

No. This preference is strictly in the children's best interests. It is the kids are who will bear the brunt of Kerry's "global test" if he's elected. They will be the principal beneficiaries of President Bush's present efforts because they are a lot less likely to have to fight and die if America succeeds in the war on terror than if it loses!

The funny thing is that the msm doesn't see or understand it.

My 10 year old can actually sit listening to a speech from Bush for about 10 minutes before running off to do something he considers more interesting. If he even looks at John Kerry he starts to make dramatic snoring sounds.

Consider who makes up the DemocRAT constituency today. They have gays and lesbians and urban couples either married or just living together with no kids. Lefties aren't having enough children to replace themselves in the next generation of voters.

not exactly - a good portion of the next generation of liberal children have been aborted. The conservative ones are generally the ones starting a family. There is a period of revolt against parents, but it generally doesn't last that long. Once they start out in the real world they will adopt most of the beliefs of their parents.

The difference now is that the 'mainstream' that kids are rebelling against is the liberal mainstream. Instead of rejecting the stodgy leave it to beaver world, they're rejecting the constant liberal pandering and whining.

Plus, now the kids have southpark, subverting young minds with anti-liberal propaganda.

I'm of the opinion that Bush will win this election. If so, the Republicans should be well set for 2008 - if we can spend the next four years reaching out to conservative young people.

This shift in demographics is a move to our favor and could rain heavily on Shillery's plans for the white house.

Well, this is a good sign since kids young tend to reflect the opinions of their parents whereas teens tend to rebel and go against their parent's opinions.

Kids and Teenagers Prefer Bush Over Kerry

Of course they do; they haven't yet been indoctrinated by NEA high school teachers or left-wing college profs.

Each time I go to NY with my husband, we trry to see some good theater... In the last 10 years, all there are are plays about homos... Because they are the only one living in the city!

Well, I love to live in a city too... But nothing replaces children!

I'm 38, I have a 4 year old and a 1 month old.

My son's middle name is Reagan. I had kids late - these kids are children of Reagan Republicans like me.

WE are the ones who rebelled against our liberal, hippy parents and became conservative. We are instilling these values in our kids. Libs are killing their kids.

The future is ours.

Bingo! Our 4th grader says the kids in his class prefer Bush. In 2000, the school mock election favored Gore. I've consistently observed that the parents of young children these days are more strict and more involved with their kids than even just a few years ago. We see a difference in upbringing (and results) between our 9 and 11-year old sons' cohorts.

The biggest reason we win these kinds of polls is that we HAVE our children...we don't abort them...
