Good Place For Conservatives to LIve

Posted on 10/07/2004 6:02:34 PM PDT by OXM_1962

I hate living in western Oregon and am seriously contemplating moving to another part of the country.

I prefer more sunshine, less cloudy days and a conservative majority.

Any advice is kindly regarded.

Don't get discouraged. If you can afford California, then you can afford the Hill Country. Just most of us can't afford as much of the Hill Country as we'd like.

I don't really know about the communities out that way. I do know that it is not as pretty there. Flat and not as many trees. Not as pretty as Cedar Hill.

"The Texas Hill Country is the best region in the State."

It is pretty! Rolling hills, piney woods. Lovely.

I'm a native Texan, born in Dallas, raised in Houston. Out of any of the places I have ever lived in Texas, I would choose the area around San Antonio.

I actually lived in San Antonio proper when I was there. I was transferred there by my employer. I would move back there in a heartbeat if I could.

Semi-funny story:
I had been living in Dallas when I was transferred to San Antonio. I had a friend living in SA and I was going to stay with her until my apartment was ready for me. I asked her how long I should allow for my commute to the office. She told me the traffic would be awful so I should allow extra time. Well, I was used to my commute in Dallas taking me anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour or more so I left her place at 7:20. Got to the office at 7:30.

I imagine traffic is a little more congested now than it was in the early 90's.

I live a pretty nice, very conservative area of Southern California. Yes, San Diego, Orange County and Temecula Valley are conservative. I'm in Temecula an hour from San Diego, LA or Orange County, and the housing-comparatively speaking-is reasonable. The weather's nice, low crime, very light smog, and a high quality of life surrounded by beautiful vineyards.

Livingston County, Michigan. Huge Republican stronghold. Ask Dan from Michigan.

"NB - very expensive - anything hinting of the Hill Country of Texas is expensive."

Well where I live, Cedar Hill, Texas is often described as an extension of the Hill Country because we have the rolling hills, bluebonnets and big lake and mature trees. I just love Cedar Hill. I live on a cul-de sac. Behind the houses across the street from me there are woods all the way down to a huge state park. I live on the edge of a lovely woods. Yet I can jump in the car and within less than five minutes shop at almost all the major chain stores. It is the perfect town and country location.

Well, yes, it's kind of hot there. Funny though, I didn't find it as hot as Dallas and not as uncomfortable as Houston. (heat and humidity)

In Houston and Dallas there are days when you can walk out the door to the outside and the heat literally takes your breath. I never had that reaction in San Antonio.

Out at the end of the BART line on the Delta in the Bay Area of Northern California. Toughest cops in the world told the cabbies not to call unless they're bleeding. I'm proud to live in this rough, beautiful area where gardenias and bougainvillea thrive.

I live right next to Lambeau Field but I'm thinking of moving since the Packers are sucking right now.

I saw today they are doing cockroach races?

Ah Savannah. My uncle was pastor of a church in Savannah Beach, and later Statesboro. I always thought Savannah was such a beautiful city!

Yes it is. But you don't have it so bad in Old Virginia - the intellectual heart of America. One of the few other places I'd live.

I live in Montana and its wonderful, but we visited Texas and it was incredible. In February I was in short sleeved shirt in San Antonio- and everyone there was very friendly to us. So either way, you're a winner. P.S. The people at the Texas airport were very kind to me when I teared up when my husband said it was time to leave.
