Car Explosion In Weehawken, NJ
Weehawken-WABC ^ | October 7, 2004 | WABC

— Early Thursday morning, a car blew up near a home in Weehawken, New Jersey.

Authorities say the victim appeared to be sitting in the driver's seat when the car exploded in front of 76 Hackensack Plank Road just before 7:00 a.m.

People nearby say they heard a loud explosion and saw a large, dark plume of smoke shoot up from the car. The blast was powerful enough to blow out nearby car windows, and it sent debris flying onto nearby homes.

Authorities say the blast may be tied to some sort of ongoing domestic dispute.

"It's my understanding - initially, preliminarily - that it's a domestic dispute of some type," said state police spokesman Sgt. Kevin Rehmann said. "There's evidence that there may have been explosives involved."

The explosion happened on a winding road, near homes overlooking the Lincoln Tunnel. Authorities stress it was not in any way related to terrorism.

Firefighters put out the flaming car and taped off the street to investigate.

Nah, I'd say this has more to do with displeasing the Don than the mulahs.

Well to be fair, my Italian American instincts kick in when I hear a car explodes in New Jersey.

Somebody must have not come up with the Vig for a few weeks. It happens in the 'business.'

Why not left wing recruitment? The left has been exercising more and more blatant terroristic tactics.

What kind of recruiting method? "Join us, or we'll blow you up in your car, Cosa Nostra-style"?

Blowing up someone in his car is usually for something far more serious than missing a few payments.

I know, but I wanted the widest range of people to 'get' the wisecrack.

That was the first thing that crossed my mind too, Shield, Jersey, NY and Philadelphia have a lot of organized crimes types and some story has just been on one of the news networks in the past few days on that exact topic.

Do a lot of people in New Jersey have explosives just lying around?

the more responsible of us keep it buried....
....in our neighbor's backyard.....
....just in case of a warrant.

"It's my understanding - initially, preliminarily - that it's a domestic dispute of some type," said state police spokesman Sgt. Kevin Rehmann said. "There's evidence that there may have been explosives involved." Gee, Ya think, Sarge?

Ya think they may look for an aluminum wire run from the starter to the fuel tank?

If that was from a "domestic dispute", I'd hate to be the next mate for the perp!

I heard the explosion this morning from my Hoboken apartment. Since the sound of the explosion came from near the tunnel, I thought it might be terror related. However, once I was able to see the traffic on the tunnel approaches moving, I knew it couldn't have occurred in the tunnel.

In any event, it looks like the explosion happen just west of the tunnel approach and about 400 feet up the side of the hill there. If it was an intentional explosion, it was not likely supposed to cause havoc at the tunnel or its approaches.

Meaning a left winger was recruited to carry out the task. Remember McVeigh?

And the recent left wing terror type act such as the storming of the Repub offices.

Yes. He blew up an entire federal office building, didn't he?

And the recent left wing terror type act such as the storming of the Repub offices.

BIG difference between that and blowing up a car with a person inside it.

Every BOOM isn't a terrorist act.

I didn't say it was. But we are all discussing possible scenarios since this is a discussion board.

If this car was suppose to go boom inside the tunnel, he may have been the volunteer and just didn't do it right.

I didn't say it was. But we are all discussing possible scenarios since this is a discussion board.

In that case, we could also discuss the possibility that Martians did it.

If this car was suppose to go boom inside the tunnel, he may have been the volunteer and just didn't do it right.

Maybe, but a non-terrorist act is far more likely. Perhaps living in Manhattan and dealing with every siren and building fire and transformer blowing up has made me less likely to automatically assume terrorism every time something goes wrong.
