Regarding this thread http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1231976/posts, where I outlined Leatherman Tools support of the treasonous John Kerry, I received this e-mail from them today:
Dear Sir or Madam:
I assure you I have personally read your e-mail. However, due to the volume of messages received, I cannot give a personalized response to each to you.
However, here in a nutshell is a general response:
Because I publicly stated how I am going to cast my vote, almost all of you have threatened a boycott against my company.
So be it.
I took a position, and now I will accept the consequences.
I am still going to do my absolute best to make great tools and hope that you and all Americans, of every political affiliation, will find them of value. If not today, someday. Tim Leatherman President Leatherman Tool Group, Inc.
I think they should keep their political attitudes out of their public life unless they want the consequences. If they choose to make an issue of their politics, I can do the sme when it comes to their company. And I don't find acting on my political convictions as far as my buying habits restricts me hardly at all.
Thanks for the tip.

You know...your political opinion is suppose to be a private issue. If this man had kept his mouth shut and just ran his business peacefully...then this wouldn't be happening to him.
I refuse to financially support the opposing candidate with my hard earned dollars by buying products sold by someone who so blatantly announces he is voting for the enemy!
Fine...he lost my business and he retained you..no prob
At least he's not whining that his free speech is being stifled.
One that finally understands he is free to say whatever he wants but that there may be consequences to his speech.
Maybe Leatherman will come out with a mini sand-blaster that'll chisel off that tanning cream from Kerry's face and clean out the ruts and pockmarks.
Yup. It's called the free market. He's free to politicize his business and we're free to take ours elsewhere.
Actually, I stopped wearing my Leatherman Tool a few years ago. I still keep in in my toolbox, though.
I was at a client's who was having a problem with a computer. I set down my tools, grabbed my leatherman tool from my belt, and in about 10 minutes, had her problem fixed (loose connector). The client decided that she didn't want to sign my service order because I hadn't even opened my tool box. I spoke to her supervisor, telling her that I would be happy to put the computer back the way it was before I left. The supervisor agreed to sign it, but that was the last time I used it right from my belt.

He is free to vote for whomever he wants, but the great thing about America is that we are free to boycott if we want. If a consumer gets utility out of knowing that the CEO of the company from which he buys products is a conservative, then fine with me.
...and I can view the companies for the products they produce and if they are the best value for the money, buy them. I own a Swiss Tool, but would have no problems buying a Leatherman Wave. I happen to like them. I wouldn't appreciate someone not using my services because of a bumper sticker on my car, so I will not do the same to others.
P.S. I also go see movies made by people who have opposite political viewpoints. I am paying the ticket for their acting abilities, not their views on the world.
For those who would like a look, the Gerber site is here:

Over the nest 50 years, sticking to one's convictions will be very important in a world gone mad. If this owner wants to speak up, he can piss off 50% of his customers. He will suffer the consequences of his decision to go public. It is the essence of a free capitalist society. Neither Kerry nor Edwards subscribe to capitalism (Kerry married wealth; Edwards sued wealth) and anyone who runs a business will rue the day if they get elected.
If I were famous for my business, I would not advertise for either candidate through my business or otherwise. If I were just a small town business owner, I would keep my political opnion out of the business.
No, but I can sure give it one hell of a try!
I have the special edition Ted Nugent Super Yool. I love Leatherman but sadly will look for a replacement.
that is what makes America so great that everyone is free to make a choice of who to buy things from and giving money to somebody who gives it to the ENEMY gets no money of mine... understand???
Sure he has every right to vote for the wrong candidate...as I have every right to buy another companies products. Why not just keep your vote private? It's too bad, I have bought many leathermans as gifts over the years.
