I was a Democrate up untill 9-11

Posted on 10/06/2004 7:45:08 AM PDT by cindy68507

Just wanted to introduce myself, I stumbled on this place quite by accident and am quite pleased that I did. I was a Democrat all my life, and voted as such since the time I was 18. I wasnt really into politics, I just voted Democrat all the way down the line because my mom always said "The Democrats are for the poor people, and the Republicans are for the rich, and thats what my mother told me" I voted for Clinton TWICE!! (This is where I am hanging my head) 9-11 was a real wake up call for me. I started getting a real interest in what was going on around me. I stumbled on to Rush Limbaugh on day on my way home, I started questioning exactly what side I was on. I liked and agreed with what Rush had to say. I didnt know what the differances were really. I am so proud to say that I have figured out that I am a Conservative Republican. My mother and I still go round and round now that she see's I have gone over to the other side. I recently also discovered Sean Hannity, whom I just LOVE. I only watch Fox News now because it IS fair and balanced. What a wonderfull time to be alive, I never thought I would see such a political race that has gone the way it has. I am REALLY excited to finally see the "silent" majority waking up finally and speaking their minds and dusting off their boxing gloves. Any way, glad to meet you all and look forward to discussions!

You have nothing to apologise for, I was offering an alternate theory of this suspicious thread.

Welcome home.

I graduated college a little over 2 years ago with no political ideology or sense of history at all. Soon, I read the Constitution and heard a bit of talk radio. I've never felt so refreshed as I have in the past 3 months of being here.

I was a democrat as well until the Clintonistas killed my party and made it their own version. Now I, too, am a conservative republican and glad of it! Welcome to the forum. We have a lot of fun here and boy, the stuff you can learn before the news media talks about it. Well, some of it the media NEVER talks about so we aren't ignorant when we stick with Free Republic. WELCOME!

Hi Cindy,

I am new here also and I just started due to Rathergate/Memogate.

This place is a great source of news and commentary on that news.

I have learned many things since coming here...

what exactly are you saying? that you don't respect the Republican party? Sounds awfully degrating on a CONSERVATIVE forum - more like something for DU.

I'll agree that circumstances dictate that conservatives should support the Republican Party, but support and respect are two different things.

My dear mom, a Norwegian socialist, always voted democrat because they were for the poor people. She, as I look back, really was a socialist. But, she was brought up as one so I can understand that. I thank God I was brought up in AMERICA!

What happened is that you see the basic fallacy of Liberalism. Liberalism is able to survive only in a world where nobody notices how inherently weak and defenseless the society it produces is. If someone does notice and attacks, Liberals are suddenly irrelevant or must proceed to a position of state authoritanism. Conservatives are in a strong position at all times, but especially in times of adversity.

Is someone/something keeping track of people who have jumped ship as a result of Memogate? Would be a nice statistic to present to Dan the Man.

"This is where I am hanging my head"

It's funny you should put it that way. In college, for a while and only till I was about a junior, I regarded myself as a Democrat. After a few unpleasantness from professors because I was not liberal ENOUGH, I got out of the mind set and, yes, I too was and still AM ashamed that I ever found any common ground with those people.

Father and mother grew up during the depression and were naturally, Democrats. Dad was veteran of the second war and a Union man too, till the US experience in Viet Nam. All that went by the way for him and at about the same time that I decided the professors and their sheep were a bunch of half-witted automatons who held only the most fuzzy and ill conceived notions about the world and life. "To understand the world you need to be equal to the world." Liberals have the most morbin inability to meet the world on its own terms and as it really IS.

Well, in those 2 years, I've taken quite a few large steps, in fact, I'm pretty much off the right side of the map.

I really wonder why some here are so worried about trolls. I understand it's disruptive and annoying to have to skim through post after post of RAT lies, but isn't it a good thing that all points are considered? Isn't it good that RATS are here reading? Might not they too have a change of heart/mind as so many of us have in days past?

Welcome, Cindy.
As to the "Democrate", it is good to have someone else here that has typos get by them.

It is not so much Democrat or Reublican or Libertarian. It is believing in values that allow the U.S. to be the nation everyone else in the world wants to come to.

The values are pretty well documented in Willliam Bennett's "Book of Virtues"
