XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX SUN OCT 03, 2004 14:05:38 ET XXXXX

DEBATE MYSTERY: DID KERRY HAVE CHEAT SHEET?

Section 5, pages 4-5 of the binding "Memorandum of Understanding" that was negotiated and agreed upon by both political campaigns states:

"No props, notes, charts, diagrams, or other writings or other tangible things may be brought into the debate by either candidate.... Each candidate must submit to the staff of the Commission prior to the debate all such paper and any pens or pencils with which a candidate may wish to take notes during the debate, and the staff or commission will place such paper, pens and pencils on the podium..."

So what did Dem presidential contender John Kerry take out of his jacket as he approached the stage [with his back to the auditorium's audience]?

What did Kerry place on the podium?

Video replays of the Kerry maneuver played all weekend long on the internet.

[A tight zoom of the Boston.Com feed shows Kerry pulling a mysterious "card" from his jacket. 14 seconds into video, after commerical]

A top Kerry campaign source explained to the DRUDGE REPORT late Sunday how Bush supporters were once again trying to distract.

"Kerry did not cheat," said the Kerry insider. "This is more lies from Republicans, who are hoping for a quick change of subject away from the president's performance, and the new polls."

I understand that.
However, that is NOT the prevailing opinion of the thread - there is a big difference between accusing someone of breaking the rules with a handkerchief and breaking the rules with cheating and bringing notes.
I'm sorry, but I smell a set-up here, and I don't like it.

"WELL , what could possibly be on a single piece of paper ? Cheat with what exactly , facts or figures on that sheet ? It dosent really make much sense to me and it's a non issue as I see it."

The questions from Leahrer(?) could have been on his several 3x5 cards....or notes. Either way, Kerry did not follow the debate rules, and President Bush did! Kerry remains a cheat and a man who lies!

Apathy?

Please read the thread then reply to me :-)

I've been through this with several peeople already. The original post has been updated from what was originally there. I did not know the rules, hence I ask for clarification. But if we keep beating up each other we won't have to worry about the RATS doing it.

"Everyone involved would be ruined for life ! I cant imagine what exactly would be on that paper anyway ..What ?/ Facts , figures //Dosent even make sense to me .."

Here's why it makes sense- when we give speeches to groups most of us bring along a few index cards- as reminders. For example- if you were giving a speech about flower gardens in England your cards might say things like " cottage garden"..."castle gardens" " medieval period" ...as a jog for your memory. Since you're already FAMILIAR with the content- you simply need a few well chosen words to help you organize your thoughts. Many freepers have made this point today...it's not as far out as it seems at first glance.

No clue who tipped Drudge, but I sure hope that President Bush did see and made note of it on his paper provided by the "Commission". Gee have we gone to "Commission" form of government?????

Kerry removes the paper from his pocket as he turns his back to the audience.

He had to practice that move.

In this crazy and frenzied world of politics in our country nowadays, it wouldn't surprise me if Dan Rather leaked it, or even JFK himself!

They are DemocRats...They will spin this in whatever way they can to see that Kerry gets away with this. Furthermore, The MSM probably won't make a big deal out of it either.

IMO it is an issue since it speaks to the character of the person...and while WE all know his character approximately 15-16% of the population don't and that is the issue.

The rules were clear they weren't supposed to bring anything with them. It appeared, to me, pen and paper for notes were already placed on the podium for each man. POTUS didn't take a paper out of his pocket and I saw him take a couple of notes, which further confirms something was placed there in advance for their note-taking-use...

If you read the transcript some answers and questions seemed to be pre-orchestrated. It "could" be President Bush saw what happened and was thrown by it -- which "could" explain some of what happened that evening with his seeming to be disconnected and/or angry. Leher IS known as the Democrats commentator.

LOL Made that very point to my son as I showed him the video, replaying it over and over and over, kinda like JFKerry is said to replay his Vietnam "reenactments".

Yea , but he wasen't giving a speech , he was answering questions .Unless he knew the questions it be hard to write up a cheat sheet that would be of much help. Now, if you're insisting he had the questions ahead of time that's different.Ok , who would risk EVERYTHING they have , total ruin , giving him the questions ? Who had the questions ahead of time ? Again , a real far out theory if you ask me .

Ooooo, I agree that he without a doubt cheated and he is counting on apathy to get by with it. You can't be a little bit pregnant and you can't cheat a little bit. Either you are or you aren't, either you did or didn't!

I think we're getting a little too worked up over this.

< sarcasm > Yeah... Getting bent out of shape over a little thing like STEALING AN ELECTION is nothing to get worked up about.< /sarcasm >

I'll be certain to file this along with leftovers from the Clintonian playbook, under the heading, "EVERYONE DOES IT."

And welcome to FreeRepublic.

Even assuming Kerry broke the rules, the rules also state, "Neither film footage nor video footage nor any audioexcerpts from the debates may be used publicly byeither candidate's campaign through any means, [etc.]"

And your posting of that quote above is to suggest what ?

That the general public is not allowed to discuss it here on FreeRepublic ? OR Are you suggesting that FreeRepublic is a part of the Bush campaign ?
