Bush Lead is Gone

By Brian Braiker Newsweek Updated: 6:04 p.m. ET Oct. 2, 2004Oct. 2 - With a solid majority of voters concluding that John Kerry outperformed George W. Bush in the first presidential debate on Thursday, the president’s lead in the race for the White House has vanished, according to the latest NEWSWEEK poll. In the first national telephone poll using a fresh sample, NEWSWEEK found the race now statistically tied among all registered voters, 47 percent of whom say they would vote for Kerry and 45 percent for George W. Bush in a three-way race. Removing Independent candidate Ralph Nader, who draws 2 percent of the vote, widens the Kerry-Edwards lead to three points with 49 percent of the vote versus the incumbent’s 46 percent. Four weeks ago the Republican ticket, coming out of a successful convention in New York, enjoyed an 11-point lead over Kerry-Edwards with Bush pulling 52 percent of the vote and the challenger just 41 percent.

Good poll questions that weren't used in this poll:

Q: Which candidate looked more like he hadn't spent the day working hard?

Q: Which candidate brought to mind the image of a shyster lawyer?

Q: Which candidate seemed to care more about polish than substance?

With these questions, Senator Kerry would win the poll with nearly 100%.

We just have to sit through liberal MSM flailing for a couple of days...

Agree.

For those who do not remember Reagan's first debate against Mondale...let me assure you that in comparison Bush's performance was stellar!

And, need I remind you that Reagan won in a landslide?

Please, friends, let's not fall prey to the trap being set for us by the MSM.

Now is the time to keep the faith in our mission and our President.---And in so doing, not only assure victory in November, but also damn the MSM to the second class citizenship they have earned.

Bush could have and should have done better in that debate. Why he did not put forth a better effort I don't know. But he let us all down. That's just a fact.

I love President Bush but if he does not at least tie one and win the other of the next two debates he could very well let the presidency slip out of his hands. Stupid a requirement as it may be...if winning at least one presidential debate is what it takes to beat your opponent and Bush can't win even win one.....then it means Bush does have not what it takes and won't be President.

That's how it works...like it or not. This time he better practice, study and win.

Exactly. Any number of Hollywood actors could ACT presidential, but none of them could actually do the job.

It was quite telling to watch one of the Sun shows this morning and hear the Kerry rep talking about how Kerry LOOKED and ACTED "presidential" rather than what he actually SAID. Big difference, and anyone who votes for someone solely on packaging and presentation is a fool.

"If it was about performing James Earl Jones would be President for life..."

It might very well be, at least partly about performing. And if Bush does not perform in the debates, then he's deficient in that area and it will hurt him. As Sinkspur says, "Bush does not think fast on his feet". Well I don't think it is an ureasonalbe requirement that at lest some time a President be able to think fast on his feet. Like during the presidental debates, for instance. I love Bush but if be being glib is what it takes, and he's not....then he might go down.

Try listening to the debate again and I guarantee (unless you're braindead and I have no reason to think either of you are) you'll see Bush was on his game and then some.

Also I'd like to point out the excessive and baseless handwringing is playing into the opponents hands. Let's stick with reality and not exaggerate perceived GWB weaknesses.

Do you remember their infamous 2002 poll showing Jeb Bush down 20 points in FL ?

Now that you mention it, I DO remember that little stunt.

LOL

I even remember seeing a DRUDGE headline on election day that McBride was beating Jeb, and I almost had a heart attack! Then the exit polls were embargoed, and there was no more news until the actual precinct results started coming in.

I'm seriously considering going to a 5 o'clock movie on November 2, and not even looking at the TV until 9.

I think there is another rope-a-dope going on here...unless the president was slipped a hit of acid or something. This "poor" showing at the debate, was "too" poor, if you ask me.

Too bad I can't post this whole article here.

Polls, propaganda and prevarication "Newsweek is out with the first post-debate poll by a major news or polling organization. The poll shows John Kerry has regained the lead, running 2 or 3 points ahead of President Bush among registered voters, depending on whether Ralph Nader is included in the survey. Bush supporters should avoid pulling their hair out. This poll means nothing."

Look newbie, you come across as a troll and don't claim that you have "lurked" here a long time, that is a sure sign you're just a DUer.

Also, you have obviously never read a think I have posted. Just after the RNC and Newsweak and Time had Bush well ahead I pointed out that they had oversampled Republicans and would later switch back to over sampling Democrats so they could claim "Kerry is surging" or that "Kerry is the comeback kid".

I'll be keeping an eye on you and waiting for the inevitable ZOT.

So Bush deliberately lost this debate, and the chance to bury Kerry's campaign once and for all, so he could play a "rope-a-dope"?

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense if you ask me...

And when did the French matter? France might as well be working for Al Qaeda since they are not much of an ally anyway.

This is another attempt by the MSM to manipulate the voting public. Say the big lie often enough and people will begin to believe it. This will invigorate Kerry's campaign. They hope it will diminish the republican vote. If you're demoralized, you might decide not to bother to vote. Now we're hearing how healthy Kerry is via his doctor or doctors. But no sign of medical records actually being released. No sirreee. No sign of military records being released either. Next we'll have TerAYsa banging on the WH front door, demanding to measure the windows for new draperies. We'll see lots of stories about what she'll have served at WH dinners, how cosmopolitan the atmosphere will be, Camelot Redux, anyone? Four weeks of nonstop press manipulation faces us. I'm gagging.

Someone asked me what I'd thought of the debate and I said Kerry was very skilled. This person was thrilled, how well Kerry had done, etc.. She has a teenaged son and daughter. I asked how she's going to like mandatory military service. Duh. She'd never listened to what Kerry had said. So how about no more tax breaks, no more tax rebates. Duh, again. I asked how she's going to like having national safety in the hands of our nonpals at the UN. Duh. Oh, they wouldn't do that. My God. I finally asked which man she'd rather end up in a foxhole with, all things being equal. George Hamilton or John Wayne. Because in the last analysis, that is the choice. I told her I'd rather be in a foxhole with someone prepared to defend this country with his last breath, not someone more interested in his tan, his manicure, looking good, botox, the UN, how much money his wife has, etc..

Sunday October 03, 2004--The latest Rasmussen Reports Presidential Tracking Poll shows President George W. Bush with 49% of the vote and Senator John Kerry with 45%.

These results are based upon a survey of 3,000 Likely Voters conducted Thursday night, Friday night, and Saturday afternoon. As a result, just over two-thirds of the interviews were conducted following Thursday night's Presidential Debate.

Interviews conducted on Friday and Saturday show Kerry with a one-point bounce so far since the debate. However, in post-debate interviews, Bush still leads 49% to 46%.

The debates did little to change voter perceptions of the candidates' political ideology. However, following the debate, there was an increase in the number who say finishing the mission in Iraq is more important than getting troops home as soon as possible.

Six percent (6%)% of voters say they changed their minds following the debate. This includes 3% who are now voting for Kerry, 2% for Bush, and 1% who are now undecided

George has to say more than "you had the same intel," when Kerry challenges him on Iraq. Make the case. Don't alibi.
