Changing the Story

[...]

Shortly before the debate began, Newsweek national editor Jon Meacham suggested on MSNBC that journalists are tired of Bush being in the lead, and so will try to narrow the race. Meacham foresaw "the possibility that President Bush has peaked about a month too early. Because we all need a narrative to change." Chris Matthews asked: "Is that your prediction?" Meacham replied: "I think it's possible that we're gonna be sitting around saying, 'Well you know Kerry really surprised us.' Because in a way the imperative is to change the story."

Evan Thomas: Newsweek Assistant Managing Editor

MR. THOMAS: There's one other base here, the media. Let's talk a little media bias here. The media, I think, wants Kerry to win and I think they're going to portray Kerry and Edwards I'm talking about the establishment media, not Fox. They're going to portray Kerry and Edwards as being young and dynamic and optimistic and there's going to be this glow about them, collective glow, the two of them, that's going to be worth maybe 15 points.

...and so they changed their internals in the polls (9-11: 391 R, 300 D 270 I, 9-30 to 10-2: 345 R 364 D 278 I) and during the 30th (to be able to poll post-debate) they only polled in the two most western time zones (ie an oversampling of Californians).

Well, I just took a little action--I've been thinking about this for a while.

Everytime the MSM makes an effort to "change the story" (meaning, to lie, fabricate, forge, commit fraud), I make a donation to SwiftVets or Protest Warrior or some other worthy conservative cause. Obviously I cannot do that all the time--or I would go broke (because the MSM is a cesspool of lies), but I can do it regularly.

If all of us at FR did this once or twice a month, Kerry and the liberals would be toast.

This is not, btw, in lieu of supporting FR.

These media leftists have ALWAYS been assisting and manipulating for Kerry and at 100 percent.

Now that Bush is leading, the media is REALLY going to get Bush, now? O, Ok... sure thing. Is that sort of lie how the terrorists are REALLY mad that we have started to engage them. When they attacked the African and Beruit embassies, The USS Cole, The WTC twice, they apparently were not mad. WE made them mad enough to retaliate against grotesque policys of liberty, democracy and tremendous sharing of American wealth to many poor nations.

Note to NEWSWEAK: Bring it on ! You haven't a fraction of the influence you think you have. And you have zero on me and my family... I turned off the television years ago, and don't read "garbage" rags like Newsweak. I clearly understand many facets of the leftist/socialist agenda, one of which is a media which Marx would be proud of.

Sell your foolish and obvious lies, elsewhere...

That didn't take long, now did it? Newsweek reports Bush's poll lead gone, he's even. Take in context with this post. Then think CBS, Newsweek, let's see who else has gone in the tank?

I think the time is ripe for the Bush campaign to start really showcasing Kerry's senate record in TV commercials and on the stump. Not just "Kerry's got a bad record" but to itemize it. They should also showcase how Kerry has been AWOL from the Intelligence Committee.

I could see it something like this:
(ominous music, voice over)
John Kerry has made a career out of attacking our military and intelligence community.

In 1984, John Kerry proposed cutting defense spending by $50 billion, including cancellation of 10 vital weapons systems. (show memo; page 2)

In 1990, just months after Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, John Kerry voted against funding our military for fiscal year 1991 completely, the year we drove Saddam out of Kuwait.

In 1994, just a year after the first terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, Kerry proposed an amendment to cut our intelligence capabilities by $5 billion.

John Kerry has even voted repeatedly against the Trident II missile system and the B-2 Stealth Bomber, two of our most essential weapons used in Afghanistan and Iraq.

John Kerry has repeatedly tried to kill a homeland missile defense system since its inception, and opposes it still.

He also opposes bunker buster missiles which could reach terrorists hiding in caves and nuclear bombs while they're still deep underground -- before they're launched.

And now John Kerry says he wants to give Iran nuclear materials. Materials that could be given to terrorists supported by the Iranian government for dirty bombs.

John Kerry is wrong for America's security.
