John Kerry's Bounce From the Debate? A Whopping 1% According to Rasmussen.
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 10/02/2004 | Whitman

Saturday October 02, 2004--The latest Rasmussen Reports Presidential Tracking Poll shows President George W. Bush with 49% of the vote and Senator John Kerry with 46%.

These results are based upon a survey of 3,000 Likely Voters conducted Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday night. As a result, just over one-third of the interviews were conducted following Thursday night's Presidential Debate. Results from last night's sample were similar to the preceding nights. Monday's update will be the first based entirely upon post-debate interviews.

In last night's sample, 6% of voters say they changed their minds following the debate. This includes 3% who are now voting for Kerry, 2% for Bush, and 1% who are now undecided.

...Six percent (6%) of voters say the debate changed their mind about how they will vote this November. This includes 3% who now say they will vote for Kerry, 2% for Bush, and 1% who are now undecided.

One interesting twist is that 64% of Kerry voters now say that Presidential Debates are very important. However, only 23% of Bush voters share that view.

I just cannot wait until Monday morning when all the beaming pundits smitten with Kerry's debate performance scratch their heads at the lack of movement in the presidential tracking polls.

Just one more reason to tune out the MSM.

Thoughts?

This poll did not have all the people in it from after thd debate. You have to wait for his Monday poll for that.

I would ignore it until then (if you pay attention to his polls).

Gilliam,
Read it again.

"Results from last night's sample were similar to the preceding nights."

"In last night's sample, 6% of voters say they changed their minds following the debate. This includes 3% who are now voting for Kerry, 2% for Bush, and 1% who are now undecided."

Exactly, there was no change. Last night's sample was the same. The 1% bump is a weak night Tuesday for him that rolled off.

There is another poster who was posting news of far more significance just before FR went down. Specifically, some group is offering a reward to anyone who fingers a fraudulent voter. The more money in that reward the better. This, plus digicam equipped poll watchers, could undo this supposed registration advantage.

Any bounce or non-bounce from a debate will take a full 7 days before it will show up.

The fact is the G.W. Bush camp needs to get clips from the debate running on TV ads showing where Kerry is inconsistent.

These need to start running soon and and stop any of the "MO" the media are trying to create.

Kerry not having to defend is 20 year Senate record...NOT once did G.W. Bush bring up his record and make him defend it....(that is why the Kerry camp is so happy and feel they won) - Which in many ways is true.

Kerry was wrong on the cold war, wrong on the first gulf war, wrong on cutting CIA funds, wrong on Military needs.....yet NOT ONCE was he forced to address his past record.

Mindboggling that G.W. did not take him to task on his record.

There is no data to suggest it takes any sort of delay for a debate's results to appear in polling.

Plus the fact that it cant be emphasized enough that if people change their mind about Kerry based on anything he SAYS, then I want to see them a bridge. He has proven time after time after time, that if you agree with him about something then you better cash in as soon as possible because he'll sell you out for more votes in front of a different group tomorrow. This country can't survive with 'leadership' that volatile

I have a theory on this performance. We are all complaining that Bush really played it down, and didn't rise to the expectations that we all wanted. We know that he has a lot more passion and conviction; just look at the speech he did the next day.
Maybe they were playing the strategy and knew that this was Kerry's last chance to gain any traction, and if they played simply on the defensive, letting Kerry put his best foot forward, and gaining the maximum gain he will for the last month.

President Bush would probably use the analogy that in Baseball, it doesn't matter how many points your opponent scores at the top of the 9th, as long as you are at least one ahead, you have the game.

I would put this in Art of War terms, where you do not use up your troops energy when they are attacking your strongest point with their weakest. You fight only enough to hold back their line, saving your energy to attack your opponent where they think you cannot.

The dems expectations of W are now very low for the next few debates. But W didn't have to convince people that he is strong on defense, thus, Kerry only got a 1 point bounce.

People think W is weak on social issues, so if he shines there, with passion and he speaks directly to the people the way we know he can, he could end up with a knock-out blow to Kerry where they don't expect it.

Actually, Rassmussen is usually way off target, and he proves it with this poll.

Believe it or not, the President will actually get a bounce out of debate #1.

I talked with people at work on Friday. One was a first time voter, who admitted to have considered voting for kerry, and the others were life long democrats who have never voted for a Republican. ALL will vote now for President Bush. The reason?? They saw Kerry as negative, and a pandering United Nations kiss-ass liberal. The straw that broke the camels back was when Kerry uttered the words "Global Test".

Kerry will forever regret the day he said those two words.........

Pray that's true.

I don't know what happened to Bush on the second half ... Bush can do BETTER and must to win. Dems will be doing everything ILLEGAL to win.
