Operation Containment: Phase II - Oct. 1st.

Goal: Contain and Confuse the weekly Anti-War/Peace Protest. Counter Protest.

We meet at the gathering point and crashed the Anti-War protest at Pioneer Courthouse Square.

The Anti-War, Pro Palestinian, pro something stupid, anti something good group had about 30 to start with.

Due to our infringement on their "message" the march only lasted about 30 minutes. The protesters ended up splitting off a little at a time and the leaders/left overs ducked into the library for what I can only assume was a re-grouping.

We had four guys this time, I was on camera (we also had FReeper Mr. Atos stop by).

We acted as though the event was ours and even had people ask if the march was a Pro-Bush rally!

Most of the Antis were simply annoyed and tried to ignore us to begin with.

We encountered three guys that were belligerent, cursing and aggressive to not only us but folks passing by. (Think Howard Dean needing a shower and screaming about Isreal and Bush.)

A few names we were called: Fascist's, Nazis and Baby Killers.

I had my camera grabbed by one “gentleman” who tried to pull it away while yelling at me. The same guy “bumped” into me hard twice each time while I was standing against a wall filming as the march passed by.

This guys main rant was “ Why aren't you in the military?” “Because your a coward!”

My response was “Yeah I am a coward, thats why I am standing HERE!”

I was hit in the stomach three times by the same old guy, kinda back handing me while we marched. He was trying to get my gut. When he realized that he could not phase me he looked at me a said "You got a gut like a Marine", to which I said "I am just a skinny computer guy, not even close to a Marine".

Some of the signs the other side had (which were not as nice as ours or as big) slogans like:

“Cheney, Bush supporters of Israels Terrorism”

“Get out now”

“1000+”

They had one nice sign promoting the Oct. 3rd major march sponsored by the likes of Palestinians for Justice and Rainbow Coalition: Portland. We are not sure if we want our four guys in the middle of that one, could be thousands.

I have great footage and not so great camera work and we marched right in the middle of them. One of our guys was handing out flyer's promoting PWs and getting them into the hands of those walking by before the anti crowd could get theirs out. (“I already have one” was what their flyer girl heard over and over, and yes she was upset with us)

This Operation was a complete Success!

We will definitely be back out Friday the 8th @ 5pm

THIS works. We did the same thing last summer when the scruffs started their weekend protests in our town. We made our signs, gathered twice as many folk, played "Glad to Be An American" on loudspeaker - had "Toot for the U.S." signs and the traffic responded LOUDLY.
It didn't take long for the dirt bags to slink off like rats into the sewer. We only had to do this one more time and they stopped their protests.
We MUST stop being the SILENT majority. If we demonstrate at their demonstrations, with patriotic song, smiles etc...they'll slink off.
Not confrontational -after all, you 'll never convince them of anything. Don't give them the satisfaction of engaging with them in conversation - it gives them courage and power.
Just be there with your signs and music - the passing public WILL chime in and quadruple your impact. The rats will slink off.
Let's stand up and roar. "Let's Roll."
