Kerry Flip-Flop on Kyoto (He voted to kill it!)
Various Sources ^ | October 1, 2004

Posted on 10/01/2004 4:09:20 PM PDT by RWR8189

Yesterday during the presidential debates John Kerry criticized the President regarding the Kyoto Protocol:

And we've watched this president actually turn away from some of the treaties that were on the table.

You don't help yourself with other nations when you turn away from the global warming treaty, for instance, or when you refuse to deal at length with the United Nations.

But what you won't hear from the MSM is that Senator Kerry voted for S. RES. 98 on 7/25/1997 in the 105th Congress, which said:

I thought of the same thing last night while watching the draft. Had Bush been a better debater, he would have called Kerry on it. Even I knew that Kerry voted against it.

President Bush had so many opportunities last night, I hope this was some type of Rope-a-Dope, for the Dope strategy.

We should add this one to the growing list of Kerry errors (or evasions) during the debate.

I think that Bush's number one job last night was to solidify his hold on women voters, and that he was told not to attack hard. He was probably told to put in some slight jabs, but to leave the full out assault for the campaign trail and his aides.

He can afford to attack at a campaign appearance, but with 62M people watching, it was a chance to talk to people who won't otherwise be paying attention. Any gaffes and lies that Kerry told at the debate will filter down to them at the water cooler, and they will still have a positive view of Bush.

It's also interesting that the Kerry campaign cannot attack anything that Bush said, and are left to make silly commercials about his body language.

Kerry's responses last night has given the Bush team plenty of ammo to use in the coming days.

Bush just plain blew it last night. I only hope and pray that he and his staff wake up in time for the rest of the debates. It looked like he was coasting.

He was tired, as a caller to Rush stated he had been with hurricane victims all day surveying the disaster which is exhausting in itself. That being said, it's no excuse. He should have been relaxing and prepping for this big moment. He could have gone today. But yesterday was only about one thing and knowing that this President is NOT a night person, they really goofed.

Personally I do not think it was Rope-a-Dope. This was just a bad night for President Bush. It may have been his worse performance in a debate that I have seen.

Now, for those of us that disect every single word that politicians speak, we can come up with dozens of examples of how the President actually 'won' the debate. But that is not one of the main reasons of these debates. These debates are done to convince the so-called undecideds to vote for you.

These undecideds are not people who spend a great deal of time analyzing politicians, speeches etc. They do not research anything. They are easily swayed because they do not have the backbone to make a decision, nor the brains to figure things out.

They are also the ones that are extremely superficial. They are the ones that would vote for someone just because they have nice hair, or look better than the other candidate.

President Bush did not do well last night and I think the polls next week will reflect this. I would expect a tightening of the race by 1-2 points.

However, the momentum can switch back to the Republicans with a strong showing in the VP debate and the next two Presidential debates.

I believe the President will be much better prepared, and rested, for the next two.

We can add this to the long list of Kerry BS that Bush didn't call him on.
Big mistake.

Why is everyone bashing Bush. He spoke truth. Kerry lied all night and got praise for it. Is no one going to call him on it?

We are pointing out things Bush could have done during the debate. How is that bashing Bush? Finding things Bush could do better and letting the right people know can only help Bush, not hurt him.

I agree.

Bush blew it last night.

He was tired and worn out.

So we move on...

He had a million chances to take Kerry down. He didn't.

He should have known some of this stuff...

He didn't

Oh well...

Bush will still win.

Hell yes he was tired, he is still working doing his job. Do you think the "powder" scare yesterday took any of his time or caused anxiety? Or how about the fact that he obviously had to know about the forthcoming attack on Samarra, a bit stressful you think? This is on top of visiting hurricane victims - meanwhile Kerry suntans and gets his nails done, hasn't shown up for work in a frigging year, and obviously doesn't have to deal with the day to day stress of having the most important, powerful position in the world during a time of war.
