Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has launched a criminal investigation into forged military records allegedly obtained from President Bush's National Guard file that were aired by CBS News two weeks ago, referring a congressional request for the probe to the investigative division of the Texas Rangers."On Wednesday 52 Republican congressman urged the Texas attorney general and the U.S. attorney in Lubbock to investigate who created a bogus document at the heart of the now-discredited CBS News story accusing Bush of shirking his Guard duty," the Fox News Channel's Major Garrett reported. The congressional letter read in part: "We request an immediate investigation and prosecution if warranted. Our interest is in whether any state or federal crimes were committed."
Texas Attorney General Abbott immediately forwarded the congressional request to the investigative division of the Texas Rangers, Garrett said.
Sweet.
We've got the cake (investigation). Now let's get the frosting (criminal charge/s).
To: Texas Rangers
Phone records.
Ple-e-e-e-e-ease!
Freegards,
Timeout
Which democrat doofus pressed charges four days before an election trying to sway the vote, and later dropped it as baseless?
It is not fair to drop a legal investigation on someone (Rather, Mapes) in the middle of trying to elect Kerry, right before the election.
Press charges now, so it can fester for a while. We all know that no one will be convicted, if anyone is even charged.
Breaking hard...woohoo!
A motley crew if ever I saw one ;^)
FGS
Ping!
Careful - they've been around for 32 years and are still waiting to win the World Series...
I read somewhere that Mary Mapes met with Burkett at some kind of diner, where he handed her the docs. After that, she proceeded to Kinkos & faxed copies back to the office.
Could someone please remind me to pick up some more popcorn the next time I go to the grocery store?
Thanx for posting the link.
That is who would handle this stuff.
And it is nice that the primary investigative unit for our state is the Rangers.
Pretty much the State version of the FBI. Lots of tools and intel folks at their disposal.
Burkett better not even think about lying to those guys.
I'm glad Abbott did this. It seems that one district fella was skating around it.
The whole family will enter that they are guilty by insanity......problem is.....that does not work too well here in Texas.
Maybe if they issue a warrant for Rather...he will be afraid to come back to the state.
OUR PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED.
Heck Yeah.
The Texas Ranger Museum is in my home town area.
Right off I-35 in Waco. By the river.
Maybe some day there will be a picture of Rather getting marched in the big orange jumps suit.
Too bad that can't drag his butt into court in down town Brenham.
Then there could be a picture of him in the uniform that they make the criminals in Washington county wear (or did wear back around 97)
They actually wear stripes.
Dan Rather: "Who was that masked man?"
Judge Roy Bean can try the case in his saloon.
Best place for a trial anyway ... when you are thirsty for justice.
I live in Texas if you need any boots on the ground. The Texas Rangers tracked down Bonnie and Clyde in Louisiana and right now they're on the heels of the Mayor of San Antonio so I'm sure they will love getting a shot at going after Burkett, Rather and that whole rotten bunch.
PING!
It's days like this that I wished we still lived in Austin!
