Is my neighboring state actually gonna go Bush this time? It sure was close last time.
Oh, and how is that one congressional race going? Something about a vulnerable incumbent against a Republican Black Woman State Senator...anybody know anything about that?

Big Laura Bush ~ Bump!
Can't wait to hear your after report.
Man I know Chris would love to go, he is having a calm week...hmmmmmm.
Do you have a phone number regarding this event....I would have to make arrangements to get him through the door as his WC would not work having to take a shuttle.....please let me know if you have a number. I will call and see if it is feasible, don't want to show up and deal with him getting a lung spasm if he is turned away.
I am not going to say a word to him untill we are on the road if it should work out.
We had a black woman running for State Rep. and she lost. Can't think of her name, we went to her fund raiser because Alan Keyes was the speaker supporting her.
Oh I think those who vote Dem have been so put off by certain groups in their party that Bush may be getting votes.

It will (sadly) be the only West Coast state that we will win this year.

First lady Laura Bush may stump in Salem next week
It would be her third visit to Oregon this year

First lady Laura Bush is expected to make a campaign stop next week in Salem.
Plans were being made for her visit, which is shaping up as a Republican rally at Chemeketa Community College, possibly on Tuesday.
No one was saying much Thursday about such a Salem visit, although state Sen. Jackie Winters, R-Salem, said it is in the works.
Winters, who owned Jackies Ribs restaurant between 1985 and her election to the Senate in 2002, said she isnt planning to cook her famous ribs for the first lady to take to the president.
But Im sure he would eat them if I ever got him here long enough, she said with a laugh. It takes a while to get them done. They are Texans, and they love barbecue.
Community college spokeswoman Melanie Moisan said an advance team from the Secret Service will be on campus Monday to prepare for a possible visit.
Oregon Republican Party officials referred all inquiries to the Bush-Cheney 04 national headquarters.
A spokeswoman for the national campaign said details of a visit, if it occurs, would be disclosed today or Saturday.
If it follows the model of previous visits by President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, admission will be by ticket, mainly to Republican campaign volunteers and donors.
Jim Moore, a political scientist at Pacific University, said such visits are not aimed at winning undecided voters.
A visit by a surrogate, even one as high-powered as the vice president or Laura Bush, serves mainly to get the Republican faithful excited about the election and make sure they work hard to turn out the votes, Moore said. It shows that Republicans are not yet willing to have the president come here again, but they are willing to send others.
Recent public opinion surveys suggest a tightening race in Oregon between Bush and Democratic rival John Kerry.
Cheney has been a frequent visitor to Oregon this year. He was in Portland on Jan. 13 and July 26, Medford on July 30, Pendleton on Sept. 3 and Oregon City and Eugene one week ago today.
His wife, Lynne, spoke at the Republican state convention July 24 in Keizer.
The Bush-Cheney ticket lost to Democrat Al Gore four years ago by 6,765 votes out of 1.5 million cast. Democrats have won the past four presidential elections in Oregon.
Tipper Gore, wife of then-Vice President Gore, spoke on the steps of the Capitol in the 2000 campaign. Gore himself planned but then scrubbed a visit to the 2000 Oregon State Fair.
According to the Marion County Historical Society, Jesse Jackson was the most recent presidential candidate to stop in Salem. Jackson lost the 1988 Democratic nomination to Michael Dukakis, who then lost the general election to Bushs father, George H.W. Bush.
Third visit
Laura Bushs visit to Salem would be her third to Oregon this year. She visited an elementary school in Beaverton on May 19, and she accompanied her husband to Southridge High School in Beaverton on Aug. 13.
Campus prepares for first ladys visit
Parking is a concern for Chemeketa officials

First lady Laura Bushs visit Tuesday to Chemeketa Community College could lead to alternate class meeting sites and increased parking hassles for students trying to start their fall term.
It also is invigorating local Republicans who are pleased that Bushs rally will be one of three western Victory 04 rallies the first lady will attend next week.
It is an honor to have the first lady visit our fair city, state Sen. Jackie Winters, R-Salem, said.
The rally will begin at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the gym of Building 7 on the Chemeketa campus. The building also houses classrooms mainly used for health and physical education courses.
Chemeketa officials were scurrying Friday to hash out details of when campaign organizers and security would need access to the building, how much of the building may be closed and how classes would need to be adjusted to accommodate the visit.
Were doing everything we can to avoid cancelling (classes), said John Hawkins, executive director of the Chemeketa Foundation and college advancement.
The rally will not be open to all; attendees must pick up advance tickets or receive invitations. Yier Shi, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee, said the purpose of the event is to energize supporters of President Bush.
These events are for supporters and those who are interested and open-minded to hear our message, Shi said.
Lisa Sohn, an Oregon spokeswoman for the Kerry-Edwards campaign, criticized the rally for not being more accessible to the public.
Its typical when their campaign has come to Oregon, rather than wanting to talk to real Oregonians about the things theyre concerned about, theyre setting the tone that if you dont agree with them, its not OK, Sohn said.
Several local Republicans said they received recorded phone messages from U.S. Sen. Gordon Smiths office, inviting them to the event and telling them where to pick up tickets.
State Rep. Vicki Berger, R-Salem, said she got one of these messages but cannot attend because of a prior out-of-town engagement. Aumsville resident Karen McConnell also received a phone invitation and picked up her ticket Friday.
McConnell, who is a registered Republican but has not worked for or donated to Bushs campaign, was so excited that she also asked her friend, her teenage son and his two friends to go with her.
Im excited because shes the first lady, and how many times is someone from Aumsville going to get the chance to see the first lady? McConnell said.
Laura Bush has spoken at a series of Victory 04 rallies across the country and will head to a rally in Henderson, Nev., on Tuesday after she leaves Salem. On Wednesday, she will visit Clovis, N.M.
Chemeketa President Gretchen Schuette said one of the biggest campus concerns for Tuesday will be parking, with Laura Bush visiting on the second day of the fall term. The rally is expected to accommodate up to 3,000 people.
The first two days of fall term are the busiest days of the year, Schuette said.
That is why Chemeketa officials asked the Republican National Committee to have rally visitors park somewhere off campus and ride buses to the event. Hawkins said the school is working with the committee on finding off-campus parking sites to use.
School officials met Friday evening with national committee and security representatives to determine how much of Building 7 would be closed for the rally. The committee paid $1,080 to rent the gym for three days: Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
Hawkins said it was possible that other parts of Building 7 could be closed on Monday and especially Tuesday.
If that happens, Hawkins said officials will look for alternate places to hold classes. Students and instructors will be notified on the schools Web site, by phone if possible, and through notices posted on campus.
Chemeketa officials said they will not interfere with protesters who might come to the event, as long as the protesters remain peaceful and orderly and stay outside the gymnasium.
Hawkins said the Secret Service will make the official determination of where protesters are allowed, but that the colleges position was that anywhere on campus outside Building 7 was acceptable.
Schuette said she received two e-mails Thursday from concerned faculty members who had heard of the visit and wondered what would happen to students. She sent out an e-mail Friday morning to all staff members giving details of the event and how it may impact the campus.
People in our campus community disagree on political issues and candidates, yet, regardless of political concerns, it is a distinction for Chemeketa to host the first lady and to welcome hundreds of visitors who may have never set foot on our campus before, she wrote in the email.
Schuette said Chemeketa agreed to allow the rally to meet on campus because the school is meant to be a place for the public to use.
I think its an honor for the college to be asked, she said. We do not get into partisan politics. This is about being a place for a public candidate to speak, not about supporting a candidate.

SALEM First lady Laura Bush is expected to make a campaign stop in Oregon next week, the latest in a stream of high-powered Republicans and Democrats to visit the state during the run-up to the presidential election.
The Statesman Journal of Salem reported that Laura Bush may be attending a rally at Chemeketa Community College in Salem on Tuesday.
Chemeketa spokeswoman Melanie Moisan said that an advance team from the Secret Service will be on campus Monday to prepare for a possible visit.

Sorry, all the tickets for Laura Bush are gone.
**But Im sure he would eat them if I ever got him here long enough, she said with a laugh. It takes a while to get them done. They are Texans, and they love barbecue. **
I've heard some rumors that the President may be coming too!
**Im excited because shes the first lady, and how many times is someone from Aumsville going to get the chance to see the first lady? McConnell said.**
I, too, am very excited. Maybe I'll see you there!
That is a good thing. I doubt we would have made it but the thought was there.
All things work out for the best, looking forward to your after report.
Enjoy, she seems like such a gracefull and good woman.
Laura was fabulous. I will get details to all of you later. She was introduced by Amy Walden and ?? Smith (Gordon's wife).
I'll post the details of her talk later.
She was dress with in black slacks and top with a magenta jacket. (When she got closer I could see that it was plain old cordouroy!) What a lady. She is a good speaker and cover a lot of points.
And, BTW, I got to shake hands with her and tell her, "God bless you and President Bush for standing tall for all of us!" I chose to shake hands and talk with her rather than get an autograph!
More details later and I will ping the Oregon crowd.
Got to catch something to eat and then I'm off to make calls at the Republican phone bank again tonight.
Oh, and the biggest thing of all -- there were 3500 people packed into the gym at Chemeketa! All standing!
Talk to all of you later!
