Oakland, Calif. - The Oakland Police Department has halted its use of D-U-I checkpoints after the city's Hispanic leaders complained that the roadblocks were ensnaring too many illegal immigrants.
D-U-I checkpoints allow police officers to demand drivers' licenses and proof of insurance. City leaders agree the roadblocks are an effective way to get drunken drivers off the streets.
But Hispanic community leaders and City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente complained that the checkpoints were making life miserable for illegal immigrants who aren't licensed to drive but otherwise obey the law.
Police Chief Richard Word has ordered a month-long moratorium on the checkpoints while the department drafts new guidelines.
But City Councilmember Larry Reid says stopping D-U-I checkpoints threatens public safety.
Yup. We'll see how the election goes. I can't believe we have "Republicans" like Asa Hutchinson actively opposing the deportation of the people who are going to be used to try to steal the election.
If the dems get the White House before we can get some Republicans that aren't c*cksuckers like Hutchinson (oh, wait, that would be Dreier), in to fix things, its time to stick a fork in it.
Let's see.
Drunken Illegal Immigrants Driving ?
Have you checked your uninsured / underinsured motorist insurance premium fees lately ?
Bet few of them ever spoke with an insurance company, except to maybe pay their first month's pemium to get the insurance card, and default on the rest of the premium payments. An incredibly common practice.
Ugh. I live in Groveport, and many moons ago lived at Shannon Way. These "people" deserve no sympathy. Illegals all. Had they stayed in Mexico, they'd all be alive.
They have the nerve to b*tch about their rescuers. Figures.
They are INVADERS.
Perhaps if they put booze stops in surface streets, where the bars are, and invested heavily in busting the sober loonies on highways and freeways, I'd be able to support it.
As of today, I'm not in favor.
What really irks me in this particular link is that they are critcising something I don't agree with for the wrong reasons!
Stick a fork in it, it's done.
Has been for a while.
So they're in violation of both the Vehicle Code AND IMMIGRATION LAW.
Ugh, I hate to say it (not really, but...) you left out also violating labor laws.
Also, in many cases, they are also aiding and abetting others to also break those same laws...a CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY.
Wonder how loud they would howl if they got everything they posses here RICO'd away???
"I assume that there is no need to italicize, underline, or otherwise highlight the glaring inconsistency in this statement."
Well, one can't be picky, they are in the country illegally, they are driving without a license but hey, they are otherwise model citizens, uh, make that model noncitizens, uh never mind.
That first thought is why I disagree with 0.08 or lower alcohol levels being the key. Poor driving should be the key. If a person is weaving, lock them up and throw away the key. If they are not driving irraticly, leave them alone.
Trying to judge everyone by the same figure is rediculous. My wife can't drink more than one drink and function. I can drink all evening and still function rather well. Does that mean I should be driving? No, but the point is made.
Obviously 0.02 is a problem for some people and 1.5 may not be a problem at all for others. It is suggested that nobody should have even one drink and drive. The problem with every special interest, is that at some point they just can't stop themselves from going too far.
People who are incapacitated should not drive. Those who are not should be able to.
Stick a fork in America. She's done.
Unbelievable ...
They probably ensnared too many escaped felons too ...
I agree on the fact that they are illegal, but lets face it, if it weren't for "hispanic community leaders" these folks probably would not be complaining about rescue workers. It is the "hispanic community leaders" with their agendas who help incite otherwise humble people(who should be humble and staying on the hush hush, they are here ILLEGALLY!) into thinking they have been cheated and are owed something. A "community leader" with an ethnic group name in front of it reminds me of an ambulance chasing lawyer. Looking for their in and ready to incite distrust once they get it.
BTW, hello fellow Ohio freeper...I'm over here in Picktown!
Indeed he does.
Curiously this was reported by a TV station in Palm Springs. A diligent and careful search of Bay Area news outlets reveals not a trace of story.
I checked oaklandtribune.com, sfgate.com, contracostatimes.com, mercurynews.com and kcbs.com without a hit.
Curiously KESQ credits AP who credits The Oakland Tribune.
Could they be spiking this story to minimize constituent outrage or is my Google Fu lacking?
atomic, check posts #28 and 34 for other links on this story.
Maybe its just me but if they are ILLEGAL shouldnt they be deported, if i was driving around without a license I would get arrested so why shouldt they, im sick of these illegal immigrants coming here expecting special treatment, I am a Brit living here in the USA and I paid through the teeth to get here, I had to go through medicals, X-rays, filing a ton of paperwork all of which costs money, I am married to a US citizen, I support her and her daughter, I pay my taxes, and I had to sign up for the draught...but I cant vote. These damn mexicans need to sod off home to mexico unless they go through immigration like the rest of us LEGAL immigrants.
If they are not licensed to drive they are a threat to my safety and finances. Put them in jail and send them back. This is the biggest bunch of crap I have ever heard.
Only white males are required to obey the law, no insurance either I'll bet. Just W's buddies barreling down the highway in a throw away car. Way to go Bush, keep them illegals comin.
And Insurance, no way illegals carry insurance.
